I had an amazing time at Excellence Punta Cana. It’s adults only and all inclusive. It was such a gorgeous resort and so relaxing. The second I stepped off the airport shuttle a glass of champagne was put in my hand. Not a bad way to start!!

Our honeymoon budget was $2000 and we were able to stay for four nights. It felt longer than that though!

It’s hard to really make recommendations without having some idea of the budget you’d like to stay within.

That said – the FI and I love cruises!!  We’re cruising to Alaska for the honeymoon and can’t wait!  Plus cruises are nice because you book one thing and have lodging, food, and entertainment all covered!

We went to Excellence Punta Cana as well. It was great. We had six nights and airfare from LA with trip insurance and shuttle to the hotel for $2,750.

@BrianneG: Hah! Your wedding took place the day after mine. We were probably there the same week!

@scournoyer418: I’m from Boston too. You can definitely book a great vacation for $4000.

Are you aiming for the Carribean?  I’d look around for flight deals first to see if any islands have any specials going on.  We ended up renting a cute little cottage in the Carribean, which was perfect for us and more affordable than going the all inclusive route.

Mexican/Riveria cruises are pretty affordable if you want to do a cruise.

@Edina: We didn’t leave for a week because some of my family stayed in LA as their annual vacation. So likely no overlap.

Yeah, knowing a budget would be helpful.  Originally I was going to Couples Swept Away in Jamaica and it was around $3kish w/ 7 nights and flights (and there was a cheaper room level too), but we cancelled that and are going to Sandals now.  Cruises are so affordable.  vacationstogo.com is a good source for finding a deal on a cruise.  Also, vrbo.com ROCKS.  I was finding beachfront condos in St. Thomas for $84/night.

@scournoyer418: With $4000 you could do tons of week-long cruises to lots of destinations (Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Eastern or Western Carribean, Southern Carribean, etc).  You could even probably do a Mediterranean cruise if you found good flight prices.

More on my love of cruises:

  • The food is amazing and always available (and covered in the cost of your cabin – no extra charge to eat all the steak, fish, lobster, etc you want)
  • Lots of activities all day long while on the ship plus nightly shows (or you can just sunbathe by the pool if that’s more your thing)
  • You get to see multiple ports during your trip
  • Everything is arranged for you – even shore excursions you just pick the ones you want (although excursions do cost extra) and show up!
  • As I said before, one price/booking covers your lodging, food and entertainment.

It really is a low-stress, hassle-free way to travel – which is particularly nice for a honeymoon when you’ve just had all of the stress of wedding planning!

We’re also doing a cruise for our honeymoon.  For 5 nights with airfare & all it’s only approximately $1500, so I’m sure you can easily do 7 nights for under $4000.

Our 7 nights at Sandals Grand Ocho Rios was around 4000, flying from Cleveland, including flight, all inclusive.  There are plenty of them out there!  You’ll def. find something in that price range.

We met a travel agent when we were there, she said to check out El Dorado in Mexico, she said it was amazing, not sure of the cost though.
