You won’t have ANY problems at all! Your honeymoon reservations should all be in your maiden name if just a few days after the wedding (I know anti climatic, right?!). I had our cruise reservations/passport/drivers license all match! Worry about the name change problems when you get back.

Just buy your flights in your maiden name that is on the passport and use it, as long as the name on the ticket matches your form of ID, you’re fine.  I travelled with two names for 3 years cause I was too lazy to update all my ID and got through just fine.  I changed my passport right away cause I done it less than a year ago so it was free to fix so I travelled internationally with my married name. But I didn’t bother to change my drivers licences (cause really, who WANTS to go to the DMV) so I travelled domestially for 3years under my maiden name until my licence expired and I renewed it with the new name.

WeddingBelle625 :  You can check it off just make sure that the airline tickets have the same listed as the name on your passport. For me, since we took a delayed honeymoon my airplane tickets were booked under my married name, I had to change my passport to reflect the new name before we flew out, other than that you’ll have no issues 🙂

Having your new name on your marriage license doesn’t make it legal. You have to obtain a new social security card first and legally change it with them.

The PP is totally right! Nothing is official until you go to SSA and then to the DMV. After that it’s cake work. You’re just letting the state know if you’re going to take his name and change you middle/maiden name. That is normal.

If you choose a totally new last name or to combine your names then there is an additional fee for that .. .it’s probably why they ask. For example my friend is a lesbian and their state will let them swap names for free, combine names for free. But they didn’t want a hierarchy and wanted a clean slate so they choose a new last name- totally random (well it makes sense to them). The state charged them several hundred dollars for the “legal name change”.

And I can check but my marriage licsense/application shows my full maiden name and I think my marriage certificate was just a copy of that. But from there the SSA can see WHY you’re picking the new last name and then you have the option to keep your middle name or make your maiden your middle name. This is all free of charge.

I literally came from the passport office yesterday  after a whole fiasco and his this 100% confirmed by the agency and my airline- as long as the name on your ticket matches the name on the passport, you are totally fine.

tallahasseelassie :  The fee for name change depends on the state.  My state, 100% free name change at marriage, no mater what you change it too.  Both partners.

Misswhowedding :  Oh that’s good to hear! Yeah, I wrote that it was the situation in THEIR state. They’re in Arizona and I live in Florida.

Nothing is official until you get your new SS card. Then you will need to do your driver’s license, passport, credit cards and bank account, etc. Check the box, but do not get anything done until after your honeymoon. As long as your passport matches the name you are using on your plane ticket you will be fine. That’s all they are checking for when you go to the airport.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve changed your name legally with the SSA and DMV. What matters is that the name on your passport matches the name on your ticket. I’ve changed my name legally two years ago when I got married. However I never got a new passport. I just went to Europe this month and didn’t want to get a new passport since it was expiring next year any way. So I jut made all my reservations/plane tickets in my maiden so that it would match my passport. I didn’t have a single problem.
