Fiance and I are taking a 5 night Carnival cruise to Nassau & Freeport in 2 weeks, and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for less touristy things to do. We don’t want to book any excursions, simply because we want to do more local things. We have a book that has a great walking tour of Nassau, which we are planning on, but if any of you have been & done some fun things or ate at a great restaurant, or found a pretty beach, let us know!
We’ll be in Freeport for 12 hours and Nassau for 24.

First off Cruises are so much fun! you will have a great time on the ship alone.
Fiance and I went to the bahamas last march for a week and stayed at one of the resorts. While you are in downtown nassau check out the straw market for sure also just stroll around there are many beautiful churches and buildings. If you want to get out of the tourist area head over to cable beach(bus fair is cheap like 1.50 and its safe). there is a really cute zoo/garden and a place called Arawak Cay that has great conch and other bahamian specialties.

We did a cruise twice and went to this zoo with these marching flamingos. It was pretty cool. I just can’t remember the name. My friend who is from there told me to try the guava duff and the fried conch. It’s pretty easy to roam about and find interesting things to see and do.
