We are just starting to look at honeymoon options (getting married in March). We live in Chile, and would like to go somewhere new for the both of us, that has a mix of cultural/historic things to do and relaxing on the beach. I’ve just started lookng into Cuba and Venezuela as options. Has anyone been? Any information about either place? Thanks for your help!!!

Meredith

Cuba was literally the worst vacation I’d ever been on. I have had MANY people tell me that they also disliked their Cuban vacation, with food being the number one complaint. I’m sorry I don’t know anything about Venezuela but my advice is still to avoid Cuba at all costs. Yech!

I’ve been to both, and would go to Venezulea again over Cuba. Cuba has very poor drinks and food. You have to expect in a country on rations won’t have good food. If you like food that is bland (very limited spice options) and repetitive then Cuba may be ok.
Venezuela was much better. I also felt less ripped off in public. In Cuba I felt like all the workers were always trying to sell me something, take me somewhere for a fee, offer and extra at a charge. More so then other resort destinations.

I haven’t been to either country, so take my response with a grain of salt. I’ve always wanted to go to Cuba, for a few of reasons- one of the main ones being that I am very into photography and it seems like a great place to take interesting photos.
I travel a lot and am pretty open minded about destinations, but the violent crime incidence would probably deter me from going to Venezuela anytime soon.
