We are going to Couples Swept Away in Jamaica. Its beautiful and all inclusive. I think we are paying just under $3600, but that includes trip insurance and flying out of our small hometown airport. Could have saved a couple hundred if we drove to Louisville or Indy or another nearby big city.

I have heard bad things about Jamaica IF you leave the resort. If this sounds like you then I would suggest a cruise in the Mexican Riveria or Caribean. however if you would stay at a resort and use it as a spa vacation then some of the best resorts are in Jamaica. Outside the resorts natives are a bit pushy when it comes to street vendors (more so than other areas) and it can get to be rude. I would suggest Carnival (younger party crowd) or Princess (more laid back crowd) for cruise lines. Also please don’t let the Carnival Media fiasco cause you not to book with them. The Media blew everything out of the water, all the guests had pleanty to eat ( even lobster the last night) and there was no human matter everywhere like the media stated. Its just the because it is so RARE to happen the media jumped on it and spat out anything they thought could amp the situation. Best of luck! enjoy your time away!

Cuba is beautiful, but if you are a US bee then I guess that’s a no-go. How about Isla Mujeres? I’ve been to Mayan Riviera and Cozumel, but would love to go to Isla- looks beautiful! Dominican Republic ws beautiful as well. Depends on what you want to do- if you are just going to stay at the resort and enjoy the beach, you could go almost anywhere in the Caribbean and get the same crystal water and white sand beaches! I prefer the Spanish-speaking countries- makes it seem more like a vacation to me:)

@little_d:  Just a thought. You can go to Cuba you just can’t get your passport stamped… Go in via another country. Friends of ours do this often for missionary work

Not me but a relative went to Cancun last year. They got an all-inclusive trip for $3k and they loved it. The beaches are said to be great, the Mayan ruins and the cenotes…they were very happy.

I’ve only been to The Bahamas (Harbour Island). I think we spent close to $3k overall but it wasn’t all-inclusive and we only pretty much stayed in the island. It was wonderful, though and the pink sand beach is the best I’ve ever seen.

i just came back from the excellence riviera cancun in puerto morelos and it was sooooooo nice. i just trip advisor reviewed it!

no reservations for restaurants, great live music and shows, adults only without being too stuffy. room service was fast and good, as was the beach drinks service. you get to just flop there on the beach and have someone bring you drinks!! (well…until all the drinks force you too leave to go to the bathroom haha)

we did a few activities on the hotel (bizarrely my husband really wanted to do the air rifle shooting so i went along and enjoyed it more than expected). didnt do any tours as was a really short stay

the spa is expensive, but can check out the daily deals. it was just a really lovely stay, the staff were really friendly

they decorated the roomw ith petals and theres a fully stocked mini bar (and giant bottles of spirits if you so wish) inluding chocolate

id totally recommend it or a hotel from that chain. im bemused why anyone would give it a bad review which is why im a bit suspicious of trip advisor. no idea what people expect from a holiday but some people marked it as terrible. i think theyre nuts!!

We are going to Couples Negril in Jamaica.  We’ve been there before and HIGHLY recommend the resort.   They treat you like royalty… it was the best vacation EVER.  We can’t wait to go back.

Most people that have been to Couples…. keep going back, and have been back many many times.   It’s really THAT fabulous.

You are perfectly fine to leave the resort.   It’s like anywhere you travel…. just use common sense.   The only place you really shouldn’t go on your own is Kingston.   Everywhere else is fine.

The resort has SO many inclusions already, that you really don’t even have to leave.   But there are great excursions if you want to.

The food is AMAZING… i’ve never eaten so well in my life.

The staff is EXCEPTIONAL… they will all know your name after the first day, and they really do bend over backwards for you.   most hopitable place i’ve ever been to.

They have RED FLAG SERVICE…. when you are at the pool or beach, they give you a red flag…. and when you are thirsty, you put up the flag and they come serve you.  it’s amazing… you don’t even have to get up from your lounger, haha

They also have a trading places deal when you sign up for your “romance rewards” … when you are there you can spend one day at another couples resort nearby, and see what the other resort is like, also a change of scenery if you want.    If you sign up for the Romance Rewards before you get there, it’s a point system… and then when you return, you can get free resort credits, and massages, and souvenirs etc… they have different levels.

They are opening up a new couples in Barbados to open in June i think but they prices are up now and they are offering a discount of some sort.

Jamaica is absolutely paradise!

@LaTortuga:  this can be said for any carribean island.   a polite no thank you and they will leave you alone.  Obviously you can get the odd pushy one but it shouldn’t deter you.

@RockStar33:  Perhaps it is just our experience but unlike the other islands there was not polite no thank and they leave you alone. And it wasn’t just one seller. I would never return to Jamaica after that. the cruise we were on even told us that it was the norm and that is why a lot of previous cruisers don’t even get off the boat.

@LaTortuga:  to each their own I guess,  I’ve never had problems, and no one I know has.

To some people even one or two people bothering them and it is the end of the world, guess it depends on your tolerance level and your expectations.

Have you spoken to a travel agent?  Most of them specialize in particular areas of the world.  My Future Mother-In-Law is a travel agent and she’s been to numerous all-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya, Punta Cana, Costa Rica, etc.  She found us a great deal at the Valentin Imperial Maya.  It’s an adults only all inclusive between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen (really, not sure if it’s considered cancun or playa).  The reason we book it was because she had actually been there with Future Father-In-Law and they loved it.  We’ve been to the Palladium (Royal Suites – adult only) resort in Playa del Carmen as well and they were nice.  It’s a pretty big resort though.  My advice is to speak to a travel agent.

Just an FYI, we live in Indiana.  We are flying out of Nashville directly to Cancun (no stops!!)  We only live 2 hours away so it’s no big deal to drive to Nashville.  We’re staying 6 nights and it’s costing us $2300.  We still have to factor in private transportation though.  We are saving $800 by waiting a week after the wedding.
