We went to a resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico earlier this month – Aventura Spa Palace.  It was BEAUTIFUL.  I’m not sure what hurricanes will be doing at that point – we totally lucked out and they were all going up the eastern atlantic and on the other side of Mexico.  I know we spent about double what you did, but we also did a bunch of upgrades and had further to fly.  It’s the Palace Resort’s 25th anniversary though and they do have some good rates if you’re not looking for all the bells and whistles.  Good luck!

We stayed at the Wyndham Sugar Bay resort in St. Thomas and loved it.  We did not do all-inclusive, but we went during high season (April) and I think it was $2200 (with flights and everything) for 6 days and 5 nights.  All-inclusive was an option at the resort though, and would probably be cheaper in November.

If you want more details about the actual resort, or St. Thomas in general, please feel free to PM me.

I’d be careful too about hurricane season. That’s the time my sister-in-law was supposed to get married (in Mexico) but couldn’t because of a hurricane.

Fiance and I went to Cozumel, Mexico last year. We have been to Jamaica, Sanibel, live in Florida,ect.. This was by far the best beach vacation we have taken. The water is absolutely amazing, great food if you enjoy seafood, and plenty to do.

We stayed at the Americana hotel and if I rember correctly it was only around $1,600 for airfare and hotel all inclusive food and drinks for 6 nights.
