I’m having trouble deciding on a honeymoon destination. We want to go somewhere we wouldn’t travel to easily with children as we will be TTC pretty soon after we get married in November. Planning to honeymoon a few months after our wedding so in the February to April range. We want to go somewhere neither of us have been to before but we also don’t want to completely break the bank. We were thinking of doing a down south thing but I’m afraid I won’t like an all inclusive. I’m really fair, burn easily, and neither of us are big drinkers. I was thinking today that Europe would be a good option as we both love good food and history. There’s a good chance this will be our only big kids free trip for a long time.
Fiance has been to Cuba (we live in Canada), and Jamaica. I’ve done a cruise that stopped in St. Thomas, Nassau, Tortola and Antiqua. I went to Disney with my mom last year.

So, before I vote, could you provide some more insight into what you want out of your trip?
Are you looking for more relaxation, or adventure (or a little of each)?
Do you want someplace tropical or chilly?
Do you prefer a city or the back country?
Are there any must-do activities?
I personally think Europe is amazing, but depending on what you really want it may or may not be the best option for you. Plus, it’s a big place so where you go will depend on what you want to get out of it.

We have the same requirements. It has to be somewhere we won’t go with children. And Europe was completely out from the start because we’d feel obligated to visit family if we flew there from Canada (plus, we go once a year and we’re going later in the wedding year for our celebration there.)
We chose Fiji!!! Ahhhh. It’s so amazing. It’s the first place we’ve both been really excited about. It’s looking like this: a few days in California, then fly out of LAX to Fiji on the weekend, spend a week in paradise and then fly back to California for a day or 2 then back home. DF lived in California for a while, so he’s excited to show it to me as I’ve never been. We aren’t flying from Canada to LA, likely to another city and we’ll drive to LA for our flights out.

Our other top contenders – Argentina, (I’ve been to SA though, he hasn’t), the Galapagos Islands, Panama/Nicarauga (I’ve been all over Costa Rica already, so he didn’t want to go somewhere that I’ve done all the big stuff.) Belize. South Africa. NZ.
We will do all inclusives to the Caribbean in the years to come, with kiddos. And we’ll do parts of Europe with them as well, they’ll go to visit family and to learn that side of their heritage. So we felt it was alright to skip it now (and really, he’s been all over Europe already. I’ve done bits and pieces of it too.)

sostobe: So jealous! That sounds like a great idea. We have up to 2 weeks to go on our honeymoon. Problem is my Fiance hates long flights because he is a big guy. How long is the flight from LAX to Fiji? May I ask how much it is costing?

klablo7: I think its just under 4K a piece. It’s a decent flight, 11 hours? We’re both 6’1, so I understand his hesitation to being confined in a small space for so long!
