I’m going to cancun because the plane tickets were cheap ๐Ÿ™‚

I just heard about these wonderful overwater bungalows in belize that are similar to the bora bora ones- only 10x cheaper! would love to try those out.

@Macie11:  Do you have a budget?  Where are flying out of?

I’ve been to the Bahamas on Spring Break (so take this with a grain of salt) but I am not sure they have too many of those types of activities.  I’m not familar with St. Lucia and it’s activities.

Have you considered Costa Rica?  I just came back from there and we did hiking, zipling, jungle waterslides, mud baths, surfing, etc. etc.

I’ve never been to the Bahamas or St. Lucia, so I’m no help there. But, I think you should look into Costa Rica too. That’s where my FH and I are going for our honeymoon. All the activities you listed are available in CR!

@Macie11:  I’ve been to the Bahamas and did not see it as a very “outdoors-y” place. Have you thought about Belize? It is easy to get to, has lots of beautiful beaches as well as a bit of a jungle, the official language is english, and it has a fixed exchange rate with the US (so you can use US currency).

I went with my Darling Husband and my family for a week and we did zip-lining, cave tubing, a hike with a 300 foot rappel into a big crater, snorkeling, and scuba diving. They also offered trips to Mayan ruins, massages, etc.

I would highly recommend Belize for a combination of beach and outdoors-y activities as well as romance.

@Macie11:  Costa Rica is fantastic and they do have all inclusive hotels.

They have a Riu and Riu Palace there (both all inclusive). Darling Husband and I stayed at a Riu when we were in the Bahamas and really liked it.

@Macie11:  I meant for like your budget re: where you’re flying out of.  For example, flying to the Caribbean from the East Coast is usually cheaper than the West Coast.

We stayed at a resort that had all inclusive, but we didn’t use that option and I was glad.  It would not have been worth it.  We stayed at the Flamingo Beach Resort in Guanacaste (Pacific Side).  To give you an idea of cost, I believe our flight and hotel was $1100/pp for 6 nights/7 days.  That did not include food, drinks, excursions, etc.

ETA: After seeing PP mention RIU in CR, we spoke to some people that were staying there, and one observation they made was that it isn’t like “real” Costa Rica and is like a mega resort you could find anywhere.  This could be good for some people, however, we wanted more of the “local” experience.

I have also heard Belize is wonderful for activities and such.  That was actually our other consideration for this recent trip, but CR ended up being cheaper and we were able to get a direct flight.  Belize is still on my list for someday!

My Darling Husband and I did a Western Caribbean cruise through Carnival.  There are tons of excursions (activitieat that you book at the ports) that are outdoorsy and fun

  • One port we went to (Cancun), we booked a great water activity excursion at a resort (This one was pricier, but we only booked 2 excursions for our 4 ports and our other excursion was quite cheap… So we just budgeted accordingly)… It was a beautiful beach, with these awesome blow up activities in the water… A floating “iceberg” to climb (basically a floating rockwall), a trampoline, giant slides, etc… My Darling Husband loved it… The restaurant there had great food… And there was this great pool that surrounded a bar… It was beautiful! There was also an activity where you could climb these fake palm trees…unfortunately Darling Husband couldn’t do it because the operator was on lunch ๐Ÿ™‚

  • At another port (Roatan), we booked a “Zip and Dip” excursion… We did this awesome zip line, I loved it! And then we went to the beach where you could snorkel, etc…

  • At our 2 other ports, we didn’t book excursions… At one (Belize) we just walked around and shopped and then spent time on the ship (We had read several reviews that this was more of an impoverished area, so it would be a good one to stay on the ship for)… At the other port (Grand Cayman), we went to this GORGEOUS beach… My Darling Husband spent the whole time snorkeling and I laid out ๐Ÿ™‚ There were also jet skis, etc that people could rent

  • If you decide to go on a cruise, you should check out cruisecritics.com…. On the site, you can search for your specific cruise and find people’s reviews and recommendations for excursions.  I would recommend booking excursions through outside agencies, not through the cruise line… They’ll be cheaper ๐Ÿ™‚ I found highly recommended agencies/excursions on cruisecritics …And there are tons of very active excursions… Hiking, climbing, etc… Our favorite excursion was seriously the zip line… It was my first time and my DH’s second time… We both love love loved it (and I’m not very active/adventurous haha)

St. Lucia is a beautiful destination that offers some amazing resorts. It also can be an expensive destination for a honeymoon. If you have a particular budget in mind and are wanting an all-inclusive, adults-only resort I would look into the Riviera Maya in Mexico or the Dominican Republic. Both offer many affordable, but very nice all-inclusive resorts.
