So here’s the scoop.
My man and I have always dreamed of taking the inside passage cruise and land tour of Alaska for our honeymoon. However, pricing it we realized the cost is absolutely ridiculous (like $6,000 PLUS airfare, food on the land tour, gratuity, excursions etc). I personally don’t want to spend that much on top our of wedding.
The kicker is I have already done quite a bit of traveling and living abroad within Europe and Asia and really don’t want to go that far for the honeymoon. While I have been to Hawaii and I am open to the idea again I would prefer not to spend my entire honeymoon in a bathing suit. My other half doesn’t seem to care either which way and is open to anything.
I look forward to suggestions. 🙂

I did the cruise and interior of Alaska and it was a fantastic trip. Put it off for now but save it for a nice anniversary trip or something. At first I wasn’t feeling beach honeymoon either, and we looked into Portillo, Chile, which is in the Andes, and looks like a really pretty mountain/lake type of a place.

Some ideas that would be fun for me!
A road trip hitting Triple D spots!
Finger Lakes winery trip?
Manchu Picchu, Peru?
How about looking at “lists” from travel sites?

If your still interested in hawaii you wouldn’t have to spend all day in your bathing suit. My fiance and I are going to hawaii this August for a week. We have a couple days planned out for just beach days (we will wear our bathing suits all day on these days) and for the other days we are going to a sunset cruise with dinner while whale watching, a polynesian circus type thing,a luau, and the maui bay aquarium. Maybe you could do something like that?

THE KEYS in Florida or KEYWEST all the way, it was one of the most romantic places Ive been to.

We’re going to Portugal. 1/2 of the trip we’ll be in Lisbon exploring and shopping and taking tours, and the other 1/2 we’ll be in the Algarve lounging on a beach. It seemed like a good mix for us, and it sounds like you guys might enjoy it too!

@Gerbera: Tee hee I live in the Napa Valley (and yes it’s gorgeous so honeymoon here for sure!!!).
What are Triple D spots?
@JerseyGirlLaur: Yeah it’s still a dream for sure so we are thinking maybe in a year or two after the wedding. We just don’t want to overextend ourselves financially.
@Ugoob: We were thinking Florida (with Disney mixed in). What is the weather like in late May/early June? Muggy beyond belief?
@Ms Spitfire: I haven’t ruled out Hawaii just because it’s gorgeous. It’s kind of a typical honeymoon spot and obviously for a reason so we’ll see. Any recommendations on Maui vs. Kuaui? Or both?

Triple D = Diners, Drive Ins and Dives!
It’s a show on Food Network, don’t know if you watch?

@Gerbera: Ah yes of course! I don’t watch and Guy Fieri (sp?) is from the town next door (a local celebrity I guess). That is a good idea as well especially since my man looooves his food. 🙂

We’re going to Maui and some of the things we’re doing that aren’t beach related are:
• Ziplining tour
• Bike tour down the Haleakala volcano mountain (and watch the sunrise before)
• Old Lahaina Luau
• Hikes around the island
• This one is sort of beach related but we’re going on a snorkel cruise to Molokini
• Taking the infamous drive to Hana and swimming in the Seven Sacred Pools, we’re renting a convertible Mustang so it should be fun!
• Something we’re not doing but there are helicopter rides available, too!

We went on a cruise, and I loved it! I’ve always been a traveler so I thought I’d be disapointed not going somewhere new and exotic, but really all I wanted to do was relax. I felt like I didn’t have to do any planning, everything is right there for you and if you want you can do it, if not you just chill.

@Treejewel19: YES! Florida in May and June is unbearably hot and humid. I’m a native and I can’t stand living here from May through about mid-October.
We went to Hawaii last year and Kauai was by far my favorite island. So underdeveloped and beautiful, definitely would be my pick.
What about honeymooning in the Outer Banks? My friend spent a week on Hilton Head Island for hers and LOVED it.
We are going (because of many, many airline miles donations) to Thailand for our honeymoon!

@artbee: The funny thing I am huge traveler and did a great deal of traveling and living abroad in 2001-2006 so now I’m kinda liking the idea of sticking close to home.
I really really (really) want to go to Alaska and when I think of something else it makes me a little sad so we’ll see. Although Hawaii is starting to sound like a good option. I’ve been to Oahu and while he suggested Kauai my mom has always preached about the amazing beaches in Maui.
@coffeespoons: Just looked up Outer Banks, gorgeous!! Definitely something to consider. However, would it not be humid there? Haven’t been to North Carolina in May or June.

@Treejewel19: I’ve only been to the Outer Banks in the spring, but my friend honeymooned there last June and it was fine. Can’t be more humid than South Florida 🙂
