Hey jaguar!

My fiance and i are going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon, but the main reason for that is that my family is in Canada and we need to swing by there before returning to Oz – so Central America made sense.

If we were keeping it local, we would definitely head to the Byron at Byron (surprisingly, in Byron!).  Its beautiful and luxurious, has a private beach, and is close enough to Byron Bay to be able to get out and do things whenever you want to.  Its been quite significant in our relationship as well.

I’m stoked about CR, but in a way i wish we could keep in more simple and just stay in Oz for the honeymoon.

Where are you thinking of doing it?

We just travelled over to melbourne, for us it was a good 4 hr drive to perth and then a  5 hr flight to melbourne! We were going to go overseas to canada but then I didnt have a passport already and have to apply old name to get one, pay fee > go on honeymoon > change it weeks later to new name, more $$ and lots of time.

So to save paper work,  melbourne seemed like a fun alternative! We were sooo busy being tourists!

oh totally it cost us over 800 dollars to fly to melbourne for the both of us (we didnt go jetstar or a cheaper airline) but went qantas. I had enough frequent flyer points to get us a big discount but it was expensive. we couldve flown to bali for cheaper. Its such a great country and I feel as tho I have hardly seen any of it! Nothing like exploring your own backyard!

I would definitely suggest anywhere near Byron Bay! Its the happiest place on Earth, and if you are from Sydney its such a great drive…i actually had a dream once that my fiance (husband!!!) and i rented a convertible and drove up the day after the wedding, still high on the events of the previous day!  I guess for us it’ll have to be the plane ride instead ๐Ÿ™‚

I love Port Douglas and Cairns, The Daintrees and that little hippy town…Koranda? Something like that. Whitsundays would be great, and Bali isn’t too far away. Vanuatu, Fiji, all good and you can get cheap flights. I guess it depends on if you want a quiet relaxing honeymoon or a adventure type. Uluru would be great for an adventure honeymoon!

I second Port Douglas! It is a great place for relaxing, but you can also do a bit of exploring of the Daintree and snorkel on the reef. It is a relaxing holiday, with lots of activities.

That said, not sure if we will stay local or go overseas… overseas is mighty tempting!

@jaguar:Vanuatu. It was a very recent decision though. So far this year the honeymoon ideas were (in order):- Libya & Syria as a combined trip (and yes this was canned due to fears of instability), then Dubai & Jordan were considered (but then the budget just said no), then Christchurch was considered (but then they had an earthquake), then we thought hmmm having problems with overseas ideas – so why not just go to Daylesford in Victoria, then I had a bridal melt down and said I didn’t want to spend the whole honeymoon driving – So vanuatu it is.
