So many places!  What type of activities are you guys considering?  Do you like mountains or beach or history or what?

Some of my favorite spots in the US have been:

Key West

Savannah, GA

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Napa Valley, CA

My SIL was just telling me that Savannah, GA was a great vacation spot.  Lots of history and very romantic.  I would also suggest the Napa Valley/Sonoma area.

Napa is really wonderful.  You can do wine tasting, rent bikes, go up in a hot air balloon, and if you guys are into food, the restaurants up there are amazing.  There are some high end resorts up there too if you just want to hang out by the pool or play golf or something along those lines.  I love the Napa Valley!

Napa is really pretty. you could stay at those winery bed and breakfast type places. Or go further north up to gold country/humboldt, etc, for a mountain escape! 🙂

I thought when you said “SF” was out that that encompassed the Napa area. Napa is my 100% absolute #1 rec. I went for a few days and I didn’t want to leave. Go in September. The grapes are fat and ripe on the vines and the weather is phenomenal.

What’s your budget? My ex and I splurged and did a Reserve Tasting Tour of Sterling Vineyards. Amazing. You ride up to the actual vineyard on a lift and you get an aerial of the valley and then they take you throughout the building which is this old Spanish style mission and then you get to do a tasting of some of their vintage reserve wines. So awesome. There are also some of the best restaurants in the country there. They take their wine and food seriously!

Oooh…have you seen the Ken Burns series on National parks?  There are some romantic, secluded spots & it may not be that expensive.  It’s certainly a different side of America than SF (Fi is from SF…love it there!)

Being from Hawaii, I’m always a proponent for people visiting…i’d recommend Kaua’i – the Princeville is in BEAUTIFUL Hanalei Bay, but my favorite is Hanapepe.  Or Maui is great if you like a little more action & variety.

$2,000 is doable since you’re not flying. How many days?

Niagara falls! The honeymoon capital! 🙂 It’s pretty inexpensive if you’re worried about it! We’ve gone on many family vacations. Lots to do & very relaxing at the same time!

Seconding Napa. My fiance and I got engaged there, and stayed at the most beautiful and romantic B&B called the Gaige House. http://www.gaige.com/ Almost all other Napa B&Bs are super Victorian and chintzy but this was was modern and zen.
