We were thinking about going to Las Vegas or Arizona for our honeymoon. Would probably go for 5 days. If we did go to Vegas I probably would only want to stay downtown for 2 days then go do something else. I see that the Grand Canyon is about a 5 hour drive away, not sure if I want to waste that much time driving unless there’s cool things to see on the way. So was maybe thinking of going one place for 2 days and then another for the other 3 days. Any recommendations on places out that way or things to do. We are looking for adventure but nothing too crazy, but also looking for relaxation.

Why not somewhere in Colorado? The ski towns are awesome and you could go to several over the course of your honeymoon if you rented a car. Breckenridge, Vail and Aspen are all stunning, different and really cool places all year long. Hope you find something you both love!

FutureMrsWaits16: We’re doing a similar trip this year too, flying into Vegas and then driving out. We’re spending the bulk of our time at Grand Canyon, but there are several national parks or national areas near the area. I think we might also try to go to Red Rock Canyon. Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks are in the area and would be fun too.

I highly recommend doing the drive from Malibu, CA or even Santa Barbara all the way to Monterey, CA On the PCH 1 and Highway 101. The entire drive is scenic and enjoyable- unlike a drive through the boring old desert. We did the Flagstaff-Sedona-Grand Canyon-Vegas road trip last year, and while it was cool, nothing compares to a drive up the PCH. The time of year is important though if you are driving along the coast. When are you doing your honeymoon?
The drive from San Simeon through Big Sur and Carmel are my favorite and beyond gorgeous and romantic. But you can check out places like San Luis Obispo, Moro Bay, Cambria- all are charming seaside towns.
I have done this drive twice as I live in California and I find myself seriously yearning to go again every couple of months. It really pulls on my heart strings- it’s THAT BEAUTIFUL!!
If you are interested, I would be more than happy to suggest some specific places to go Along the way. You can even hike into the alpine forests.
Here are some pics of the drive through Big Sur. Damn! Now I want to go again!

If you want to stick with the Vegas area, how about Lake Powell? It’s maybe midway between Vegas and the north rim entrance of the Grand Canyon. There is most definitely scenery – Utah is awesome. Anyway you can rent a houseboat and hang on the lake for a couple of days, just tooling around, swimming, whatever. Zion Natl Park is about equally close by, different direction once your’e in UT. Should be fairly nice in October – lots of fall colors if you head into the trees – I’m pretty sure there are mountains in SW Utah as well.
