I would make sure you’re not going over anything that could even possibly be spring break time. Otherwise you’re going to be over run with drunken half naked college students the whole time!

GL!

Cancun is hit frequently by hurricanes-especially in the last couple of years.

just make sure you get trip insurance. I just booked a trip and it cost $188 and could be activated for ANY reason.  I live in Miami, I’m familiar with hurricanes- just get the insurance and you should have a worry free trip.

MissShorty,

May I suggest Playa del Carmen over Cancun. Playa is just 30 miles south of Cancun with a simple bus ride and it’s much more of a resort town with things to do without the half naked teens.  beesknees is right, there was a hurricane just last August when we went.

Yes August is hurricane season in Cancun, so I would buy the insurance to be on the safe side.  Spring-breakers aren’t really a problem if you don’t go in March and April, and in my experience, they usually stay at the cheaper resorts anyways.  Also, such resorts like Le Blanc (you can read about it in my proposal post) is couples only~ You can’t go wrong with Le Blanc.  If that’s out of your price range~ another option is Sun Palace~ which is owned by the same company~ but more affordable~ and it is also couples only.  My venue is also quite popular for honeymooners~ Dreams Cancun.  Do you want to do all-inclusive or european plan?

The Pacific Coast is not in the hurricane zone. This includes such destinations as:

  • Acapulco
  • Huatulco
  • Ixtapa
  • Los Cabos
  • Manzanillo
  • Mazatlan
  • Puerto Vallarta

My FH stayed at a really nice all-inclusive in Manzanillo where there aren’t as many American tourists. The beaches are very different from the Caribbean side though, so if you want to swim in the ocean, that might influence where you choose to go.

There are hurricanes that hit Cabo since a group of my friends were stuck in Cabo without power (and without flights back) when a hurricane hit this past summer.  Also~ I hear the waves are huge in Cabo! But Cabo is beautiful~ so I hear.

Dreams Cancun is like #10 on Tripadvisor at the moment~ I should know~ I check it everyday~ hehe~

Since his family is from the Yucatan~ I’m sure they’ll have so suggestions right?  I’m sure they’ll have a better grasp of the hurricane situation than anyone.
