I was wondering if anyone had any experience or info using any of the Costa Rican Travel Agencies/ Package Deal Companies? My Fiance and I want to go to Costa Rica because there is so much to do! We want to travel to three specific areas: arenal volcano, monteverde cloud forest, and manuel antonio beaches/rainforest. We’re looking to stay 7- 10 days. We’d like to avoid driving ourselves, and we like that travel companies will provide all the transportation and some included tours. The one possible downside is that we have to go with the hotels that they sponsor.
Does anyone reccomend (or not reccomend) any specific travel companies?
If so, how were the hotels and included tours sponsored by that company?
Did they allow you to customize your trip (i.e. choose the locations, etc)?
Was the staff bilingual? friendly?
Did you feel safe with them?
Thanks bees. I really appreciate all of your help!

We stayed at this villa in the Manual Antonio area and it was awesome. It is in a beautiful rainforest. Their one week package will let you spend 2 of the 7 nights at the MA beach hotel. You get to pick which one. We stayed at La Mariposa. Gorgeous. Jacuzzi on the balcony. We hardly left the room except for the sunset sail! They are so nice and will adjust anything you want, days, ecctivities, everything. It’s really different.
Yes, bilingual (Americans), very friendly and safe.
Arenal is wonderful also. There is a hotel there called Tabacon. They have this amazing waterpark with little falls and pools all over. You can easily spend the whole day there. The hotel is kindof pricey, but allot of people don’t know that you can just buy a day pass to the park without having to stay at the hotel. Check it out for sure!

Happynluv– thanks so much for the information. I was just searching the honeymoon blogs when I saw your post about your honeymoon stay. I clicked on the link that you provided and I was automatically hooked. I absolutely fell in love with what I saw on their website. I just booked my honeymoon with them. I will be going in April 4, 2011 and I cannot wait. Deborah, one of the owners, has been very very very helpful in answering all of my questions & concerns. I am sooooo excited about the honeymoon.
Beachy Bride- I highly recommend the honeymoon stay at “Light of Dawn”. Should you have any questions, just send an email to Deborah and I am sure that she will answer any/all of your questions as well. She has been very helpful to me and this places seems like Paradise!!!

Just a quick question, their website says 3700 is that each or total?

We’re going to Allegro Papagayo, an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. We’re flying into Liberia. We go the whole package for both of us for 8 nights for $3700(total), and that was with a $300 honeymoon package as well. The hotel company is called Occidental Hotels. You can just google either one and find the site I am talking about. On their website, I booked our flights, hotel, and hotel transfer altogether. It was just over $3900 during the holiday season with taxes. I even wanted to change a flight, and the hotel was able to deal with American Airlines FOR ME and even was able to get a negotiated reduced price for the change. So they were helpful. There are tours/activities you can sign up for at the hotel. I am really looking forward to it, as there aren’t many great options during December and I have always wanted to go to Costa Rica.

Hi Kat42 :o) the $3700 is for 2 people. Everything is all inclusive and private :o) You have the option of staying 2 days & 2 nights at a beach resort and you get to pick 2 tours/excursions on days that you are at the Villa. Deborah, the owner, has been so helpful :o) I am sure that if you had any questions, she will be happy to answer them :o)

I love COSTA RICA, you are going to have a blast! I had a friend who stayed at the Red Palm Villas.
There is also a good board that I like to look on when traveling somewhere. Here is a good post about Costa Rica…

I didn’t use a package but they do have them through AAA also. I stayed at the Arenal Nayara and it was the coolest place I have ever stayed! You can go to the Tobacon Hot Springs whether you stay there or not. We also hiked to the waterfall in Arenal…short hike, slightly strenuous, but super beautiful!!

I just went last year and I know you really want to do the package deal but Costa Rica is very easy to travel. I did not pay anywhere near the prices you all were quoted and i stayed 8 days and traveled to arenal, monteverde, and the carribean cost for turtles and sloth sanctuary. I did everything myself over the internet and for four with airfare we did not spend 2000. In arenal I stayed at arenal lodge with a clear view all night of the lava coming down the side of the volcano and during the day went to tabacoon for the waterpark. Just something to think about. All year last year roundtrip airfare direct to Cost Rica with all taxes ranged from $200-300 per person. I got $205 direct round trip ticket. You are going to love Costa Rica!
