@mrsredmond:  I’ve never personally been but I know quite a few people that have been to Key West and have loved it.

I am not married; therefore, I haven’t honeymooned there 😉 But I have been twice for a girls vacation….it’s gorgeous…nothing like Myrtle Beach…both times I was in Pensacola and Destin…check out Destin!

I can help you! Check out Sarasota (my home town) in the Gulf Coast we have the most beautiful beaches in America after Hawaii. Check out Siesta Key beach 🙂 Baby powder sands, cotton candy sunsets, no waves–just peace. You could totally do it within your budget! Let me know if you’re interested and I’d totally help you find accomodations or plan the trip.

Also: It’s about 2 hours from Disney. I would personally NOT stay in Orlando for the honeymoon. If you guys want to do the theme park thing then you could stay in Sarasota and take the weekend to go to Disney or Universal. That’s just what I would do. Orlando is nuts.

Also, near Sarasota: Anna Maria Island if you’re into the beachy village vibe.

Or if you want more touristy things to do then St. Augustine on the east coast of Florida is also nice but more expensive.

We booked our Honeymoon in Siesta Keys. It was voted #1 beach in America, super pretty. We are renting a condo for 7 nights for about $800. I didn’t think it was too bad because we are on a budget too.

I love Florida, I’ve probably been at least 30 times. I love the Gulf Coast. Panama City was always our fave place to go. The water/beaches there are just beautiful.

We had also contemplated going to the Miami area. There are tons of 2-3 day cruises you can take from there to the Bahamas if you want something a little different.

Destin/Ft. Walton are also nice.

I’ve heard good things about the Keys too.

Good thing is from your wedding date, I can tell you you’ll be going at the start of off season so you should easily be able to do it for $1500.

I would say Sarasota also, I live there:) It would definitly fit in your buget and it is beautiful, like PP have said Siesta Key is voted # 1 beach in the US right now. Depending on what you want to do, there are some local attractions, and then we are about 45 minutes from Busch Gardens and about 2 hrs from Disney. I have been to Key West, it was nice and fun but not much beach, and it is expensive.

Siesta Key is really nice, so are Clearwater and Sebastian beach! Like a PP said, unless you are looking for a tourist-y theme park type trip, steer clear of Orlando. The nightlife is great, but it’s packed as well!

We went to Gatlinburg for our honeymoon in March. My first wedding however to my ex we went to Sanibel Island. Nice place, beautiful beaches and great resorts. On the gulf side of the state.

Just saw when your wedding is… remember it is hurricane season down here as well as NC at that time, and we do get a lot of rain in FL in September. I would hate for you to plan a wonderful trip then get it rained or stormed out. Please whatever  you do make sure to get trip insurance that will cover if you have to cancel before coming or leave early because of a storm.

Saint Augustine is one of my favorite places in the world.  I got married there, and it’s also where I hope to retire some day.

Honestly, I wouldn’t go to Daytona. I grew up going to the beach every summer – in Alabama  and  Florida. Daytona seems… trashy IMO. I’d stick to the gulf or the keys.

Daytona is kind of sketchy, I’d stay away not very romantic.
