Oooh go to Santorini!  It’s beautiful, and so unique.  I went with my sister and we both agreed we’d like to come back someday with boys.

I’ve also been to Mykonos, which was nice but really expensive.  So I don’t think that’s a must.

I was thinking of going to Greece for my honeymoon as well! Love the pictures, Santorini is a must for us. Could someone give me an estimate of how expensive it is? Hotel/food wise? Thanks!

We went to Santorini this past summer and it was amazing!  Definitely worth a stop.  There are a lot of really nice hotels, but we were on a little more of a budget and stayed at the loizos apartments in Fira (http://www.loizos.gr/).  It was very affordable, I think around $100 a night, and was very nice.  The staff was wonderful and it is a five minute, VERY scenic walk to the main town.

As for food, there are a lot of really, really nice places to eat with AMAZING views that have prices to match.  In town, there are tons of reasonable places to eat, and a fair amount of “fast” food, which is basically grilled meat or fish and totally yummy.

If you are trying to save money, I would stay in Fira which is still gorgeous, rather than Oia, which is much pricier. Overall, Santorini is spactacular and I have yet to see a picture that really does the place justice.  Amazing.

No problem!  I’m happy to help!  We did not use a travel agent- I did all the research online and from guide books.  I don’t remember how I found out about loizos, but I always check out hotels on tripadvisor.com.  I also do a lot of research on the thorn tree travel forums at Lonely Planet (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/index.jspa’ defer=’defer).  There is a fair amount of “I would never go to any mainstream place” snobbery there, but there is a lot of good information too, and people are always willing to answer questions.

We got to Santorini by ferry from Crete as part of our island hoping.  It was pretty easy and reasonable and I think the ride took 3 hours.  If you do end up taking ferries at all, make sure to check the length of the ride- there are some seriously slow ferries out there, and there is not much of a price difference.  I do know there is an airport in Santorini, so you could definitely fly there too, but a ferry ride, if only a few hours, might be kind of nice.

Sorry my answer is a little jumbled!  I’m in a hurry, and wanted to answer your question, but feel free to PM me or post again if you want any more information.  πŸ™‚

Each island has it’s own personality. I think it really depends upon how much time you have, and what your interests are. If you’ve got about 10 days I would recommend Santorini and Mykonos.

I live in Greece, and I visit Santorini every summer! There are many gorgeous islands though, depends what you’re looking for.

Just a suggestion- you can still find budget hotels in Oia (look at tripadvisor.com) and it’s nicer than Fira in my opinion.
