My Fiance and I have finally (I think) narrowed down our honeymoon possibilities to two…Hawaii or St. Lucia at Sandals La Toc. I have been to Hawaii and I absolutely loved it. The only two downfalls were the travel time (12 hours from Baltimore) getting there and how expensive everything is on the island. I have never been to St. Lucia but I have read that everything outside of the resorts is pretty expensive also. Has anyone been to both and if so could you tell me which you preferred?

I’ve only been to Hawaii, but I can agree with you that the travel time and travel expenses, especially from where you are, for Hawaii are pretty outrageous. We went to Maui from Cincinnati for our honeymoon and experienced the same thing.
However, I will say that to us, it was totally worth it. Neither of us had even been to Hawaii before, so we were determined to make it happen.
Several of my friends went to St. Lucia on their honeymoons and loved it!
So…you know you love Hawaii. Are the time and cost worth it? Or would you prefer to have a bit extra time and some more money to play with in St. Lucia? What’s most important to you when it comes to your honeymoon? Does your budget accommodate both trips?

We did Hawaii for our honeymoon, but I vote you should go to St. Lucia since you’ve already been to Hawaii. Go experience something new!

@smrlovingrl: We are East-Coasters and decided to go Caribbean for the same reason. Fiance and I always wanted to do HI for our honeymoon, but it just wasn’t practical. We’re adding it to the “must go” travel list for a future anniversary trip (when we can take 2 weeks and really enjoy it).

At the time we were planning our honeymoon, we didn’t know we would be moving back to CA, so we decided on Aruba (St. Lucia was also on the list and I know people who went there and loved it!) but Aruba was better for our budget for the time we’re going. The flight alone kills part of your vacation. That was a big factor for us. If we knew we would then be living in CA, we may have chosen Hawaii.

I just got back from hawaii a few days ago, it was beautiful and a wonderful trip, but I would suggest St. Lucia. Its much more relaxing and low key – plus much less travel time!

My husband and I stayed at La Toc and we had a great time. I hear Hawaii is very overrated. And unless you have 10 or more days, it’s not worth the travel time.

Thank you all for giving me your input, I really appreciate it. Does it make a difference that we will be going in September? I’ve heard that St. Lucia is far enough down that we will miss the hurricanes. Any truth to that?
