Hi! I haven’t been on a honeymoon yet, but I have been to Italy and it was AMAZING! If you head further south you won’t see as many sights, but the weather is very hot and arid and it’s really nice. I was there for 3 weeks and I absolutely had the time of my life! I can’t speak to the cost of lodging because I stayed with friends, but the rest of the things (food, entertainment, etc) that I encountered were reasonably priced because we weren’t in a tourist town. Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll do my best to help you out!

I know someone who went because they werent into the beach and didnt have tons of money to spend. Either way, I like travel agents for the piece of mind of booking everything together.

I would price out some sample trips on Expedia since the price would depend on where you go in Italy. Some towns you can rent an apartment in and save money while others you need to get a hotel.  Just a general rule, I would budget at least $1k pp for flight and at least $330/night for a hotel.  That can give you a general idea of cost.  You can also do a Mediterranean cruise and it would be a lot cheaper and hassle free since it includes food and you wake up in a new place without the stress of travel but but you only get one day in each place.  I’ve been to Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice, and Capri which I booked myself.  You can go through a travel agent but expect to pay a tad more but if it’s your first time it may be really helpful.  If you have any other questions, let me know– Italy is beautiful and you cant go wrong!

i have some family who vacationed there a few months ago and they said it was a little pricey since the exchange rate from USD to EURO isn’t very good.

@Missy_Marie: honestly, anywhere you go on a honeymoon is going to be expensive – if you go to a resort on an island the food and drinks will be even MORE EXPENSIVE than going to italy. if you do decide to go though, use european destinations. we’re going to italy for our honeymoon and it’s so much cheaper than using a travel agent and  they book EVERYTHING for you… you can also decide if you want to stay in cheap or expensive places and how you want to get around. Hope you have fun!!
