You two are going to have such a lovely time! So exciting!

I definitely recommend Nice – such stylish people and truly beautiful! I took a train from Paris to Nice several years back and it was fine!

As for accomodations, have you ever tried VRBO, or other similar sites? Since you will be there for two weeks, it would be nice to have an apartment in the city center- you’ll feel like locals!

Have fun!

Excellent choice! I got engaged in Paris, and am excited to use that as a reason to go back for anniversaries 🙂 I highly recommend taking the high speed train down to Avignon and exploring the Provence region.

@sunflower6813:  Funny you should ask about booking. We actually were taking a flight down to Provence from Paris, but our plane from NY was late, and we missed the connection. Long story short, we ended up buying train tickets right at the airport for a train leaving an hour from that time. I do think it’s cheaper to book in advance, but you’d certainly be fine to wait until closer to the date!

Congrats!  We honeymooned in Paris and London and loved everything about it.

I agree with renting a flat.  We went with airbnb.com.  Really made us feel like we were truly living there instead of being a tourist.  Also hash out your museum game plans(cause how could you not go to the Lourve or d’Orsay?) as some days are better than others and a Museum Pass would be helpful for that.  Rick Steve’s guidebooks are my Bible when traveling.  Read through there and you will find lots to do!

Hey, I actually live in Paris, and had to go to Nice for work last year. We went by plane (airfrance from Orly) as the general consensus amongst my french colleagues was that it was by far the best option (it takes 5h30 to get to Nice by train vs 1h20 on the plane).  Having said that if you do want to go by train the website I use to book tickets is http://www.voyages-sncf.com. It is in French but you can press the translate button to get a rough idea of what it says. I did a quick search and the price is not that different for fly vs train (about €30 cheaper on the train). I hope this helps!

@sunflower6813:  Check out this link http://www.quora.com/Paris/What-are-the-best-value-Michelin-starred-restaurants-in-Paris which has some recommendations for michelin starred restaurants in Paris which have special offers on (usually at lunchtime) that make them really good value. I have tried Les fables de la fontaine and it was really good. I tired a cafe at the weekend in the Marais called Chez Hanna, and it was really good. It is a falafel place, and the area around there is really cool anyway so if you happened to be exploring around lunchtime it might be a good option. There is also a restaurant called Sola which does Japanese/French fusion food and is really really good. Good views of the city; I would say def go up to the top of the hill in Montmatre, the view is beautiful from there. Also the big Printemps store on Boulevard Haussmann has a restaurant at the top with panoramic views of the city as well. I am not sure if you have heard (or will be there at the right time) but the first Sunday of the month is the day that all the public museums are free, so you can go to the Louvre and save €10 (it gets busy though). Have an excellent time!
