Fiance and I were looking into going to the bahamas for our honeymoon, more specific the atlantis resort. Have any of you been? I would really like to know if this is an ideal honeymoon destination and if so how much should we budget for? Also, what is there to do on the island? Nassau Island will be a short boat ride away so we want to get an idea of what there is to do besides the stuff in the main resort where we will be staying.
Hope you can help 🙂

What do you enjoy in a vacation? It’s hard to answer without knowing that.

Sandals Resort has good deal for less than 4K!

It really depends on the kind of vacation you want to have. I personally find Atlantis to be crowded and very expensive for what it is. That being said, I travel a lot. Someone who doesn’t travel as much might really enjoy the resort atmosphere. It’s very much a family-friendly resort, which is not somewhere I’d want to spend my honeymoon. They have a water park, swimming with dolphins, golf, etc.

We stayed at Sandals Royal Bhamain for our honeymoon (on Nassau) and loved it. We lazed, we ate, we drank, swam a little bit, snorkled once. Typically, we are “see and do it all’ on our trips, but this was actually kind of perfect for do nothing, time to connect. Plus, inclusive meant that we were all paid for before landing, and didn’t need a sperate meals and drinks budget.
Sandals was adults only, so really peaceful. I wouldn’t pick Atlantis unless you are okay being constantly surounded by kids on vacation (which means kids constantly on a sugar rush)
Honestly, we didn’t do/see a lot, but it was nice to have a vacation that way too.

Our friends went to Sandals in the Bahamas and loved it – they were the ones who encouraged us to look at the Caribbean for our wedding/honeymoon, and while we chose Jamaica because of the easier marriage requirements, I’m sure the Bahamas are awesome.

We went to Atlantis for a cruise excursion and it was amazing! The day we were there was not a lot of people and we didn’t have to wait in any lines (it was the beginning of December). We are basically big kids at heart, so we loved the water rides. After spending a day there, we knew we wanted to go back again. We considered it for a honeymoon, but right after our wedding is in the middle of hurricane season, so we will save this for a trip later on. Atlantis does sell day passes, so you could always take a day trip to the resort and stay somewhere else if you have concerns about the resort. Also, if you are looking for a good deal, the Comfort Suites next door to the resort gives you daily access to Atlantis and they include breakfast with your stay.
