There were some issues in Athens a few weeks ago. But we have had someone in Greece on their honeymoon every week for the past month, and they’ve had no issues. If it weren’t for the news, they would have had no idea anything was going on. We had our guide meet them at the airport in Athens, show them around the city a bit before heading to the hotel, so they understood the layout and felt totally at ease.

Mykonos, Santorini, and Athens are among the most popular. There are a lot of great hotels to choose from. We usually recommend a winery tour, sunset cruise, or something like that. It’s a great destination.

Greek Island honeymoons can be a bit tedious to plan. There are a lot of things to consider. You’ve got to figure out how to get from one island to another. And if you do it in the wrong order, then you’ve got to go back to Athens, and then go back out again.

Someone here on Wedding Bee was nice enough to blog about their Greek Island honeymoon that we helped them with. This may help you as well.

check the forum posts on tripadvisor.com for advice from other travellers who have planned their trips to the Greek Isles. I went there in 2001 and loved it!

I’ve stayed on the islands of Zakynthos, Lemnos and Rhodes – all of which were beautiful. Beaches were very small though in Zakynthos so wouldn’t recommend that if you love to lie out on the beach all the time. Rhodes has tons of history but is busier and more expensive. DM me if you want any more info…

I just took a prehoneymoon there 3 weeks ago. I highly suggest Homeric Poems in Santorini. It was AMAZING! I didn’t love Mykonos and would have cut back to 1.5 days there and instead added Naxos.

I would love to go to Santorini – the photos of white buildings against the blue sea look stunning and I bet even better in real life!

What I liked about Mykonos was the morning trip to Delos. It is a party town so if you are into clubbing there is that, but otherwise the city is so small and the resorts are actually far away and you need to cab it there, so we were a little restless. It is also mad expensive and I just wasn’t super wowed. We loved relaxing by the pool, but Santorini was so much prettier and I would have stayed there and relaxed an additional day. We flew into Athens then did a small plane jump to Crete where we stayed downtown so I could see knossos. I would consider staying in a resort further  away in the island in the future as it was really nice. After Crete we took a hydrofoil to Santorini. I cannot say enough good things about my whole time in Santorini!

Mykonos is more of a party island, I wouldn’t recommend it for a honeymoon.  More touristy Santorini is a more appropriate honeymoon destination.  Also, Crete, Zakynthos, and Corfu are great.  If you want a less touristy feeling you can visit Skiathos & Skopelos (Mamma Mia) or Paros/Naxos/Lesbos!

Have a blast! All of the islands are beautiful!

the Greek Isles are STUNNING!!  I could easily have spent the whole time in Santorini – its that breathtaking.  Be sure to visit Oia for sunset <3  We went to Mykonos but its more of a party island – wouldn’t go there on my honeymoon.  As far as getting around we took ferries – an overnight ferry from Athens to Santorini was cheap and easy then we took a high speed ferry to athens from mykonos!

YAY! We are going to Santorini for 7 days in early September and then spending 2 days in Athens. In Santorini there are so many places to stay at. If you want the calendar view, white houses, blue tops…then you should stay closer to Oia. There are resorts, boutiques, etc. around that area that are close enough to walk to the fun (other areas would be 30 min cab ride). We are staying at the Mystique…it’s a Starwood hotel. Hotel pools in Santorini are small because they are built on the mountain and in some areas it’s not allowed. So don’t worry when you read the travel reviews…most pools are smaller. The beaches are nice in the Southern part. They have the red beach that is beautiful. It all depends what kind of honeymoon you want to have…close to the action or romantic and secluded? I can help more if you need!!! Congrats!!! OPA!!
