Check out Carmel in California… my home away from home. It’s absolutely breathtaking, and next to Monterey. I think that’s a great idea that you guys want to stay in the US. Doesn’t matter where you are as long as you’re together 🙂

Ive been to carmel.  Pretty scenery.  My FI and I are staying at a resort in San Diego. http://www.thegranddelmar.com/

we are splurging on the room but want a very chic relaxing stay.  They are inland a bit with a service which takes you to the beach and supplies towels, chairs etc.

Hotel Del Coronado was my other choice.

@sheri531:

Santa Barbara, California is wonderful – especially in July or August.

Since you’re in St. Louis, it might be less expensive to fly to Hilton Head (SC) or Florida. I recently stayed at the Vero Beach Hotel & Spa (a Kimpton property in Vero Beach, FL) and it was amazing.

Go somewhere in florida! You can be close to the beach and an hour-ish drive from orlando where there’s disney and all the other theme parks, as well as music and food and so much to do!

@sheri531:  No problem! Also – Outer Banks in NC might be nice!

If you want to do something that might be not as warm – how about a beach area in New England? There are tons of romantic B&B’s and intimate resorts…

Orlando for Disney and Universal then on to St. Pete Beach.

If you just want the beach I highly recommend Ft. Myers and Sanibel/Captiva Islands or the Keys.

@sheri531:  I’d avoid Florida if I were you. So many places there are busy and rundown with tourists because Florida is always the “go to”. I live just outside of Hilton Head and LOVE it. You could do a few days in Savannah, GA, a few beach days on Hilton Head, and a few days in Charleston or Beaufort. It would be very relaxing and you’d get some sun for sure! 🙂

@sheri531:  Hollywood Beach, Florida! It’s so amazingly gorgeous there and just a 10 minute drive from Miami! My husband and I try to go there every year! It’s really reasonable, too! Just google Hollywood beach, FL and their website comes up with all of the hotels and condos you can stay at!

@MrsTillerResq:  I did the Savannah/Hilton Head trip last year and really enjoyed it.  We toured Savannah for three days then we relaxed at the beach at Hilton Head for the last two days.  Great trip!  I even got a great deal on the Westin on Hilton Head; I only paid $70 a night (for a $300+ hotel room with an oceanview) since it was the first week of June and the summer had not officially started yet.  Great recommendation!

@anemily:  +1

OP, check out Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard Block Island, etc. for some romantic little B&Bs on/near the water. But, if you’re looking at California, no contest lol… take me to CA anyday. I’d love to go to Napa Valley, CA – I hear it’s just lovely, although I don’t think it’s very close to a beach.
