@MrsTillerResq:  I was going to suggest Hilton Head too 🙂
I live in Augusta but work near Jackson

@sheri531: OP Another vote for Hilton Head!

A friend of mine took hers at a cabin in Lake Placid, NY. They swam in the lake, ate yummy food, and definitely had time to relax and unwind from the wedding. I know it’s not an ocean beach, but there is a body of water there.

Another non-ocean, but huge body of water, location is Mackinac Island, Michigan. The island does not allow motorized vehicles (save for emergency vehicles) and the Grand Hotel is a stunning turn-of-the-century luxury resort. It’s swank and beautiful, but definitely relaxing. Once you arrive on the island, you get to the hotel by horse-drawn carriages. I kid you not.

@ArtDecoDC:  +1 for Mackinac Island, love it there!  Although I don’t think you could keep yourself occupied for more than 3-4 days.  Make sure to take a carriage tour and then explore on your own by renting bikes!

@Rubbs:  Do you have any recs on places to stay/eat in Cape May!  I’ve been, but not stayed there..and I’m asking for my sister!

@LavenderBride24:  Oyster Bay is an excellent restaurant.  I won’t leave Cape May without eating there!

Jackson Mountain Cafe and The Ugly Mug are my other two favorites.

The Henry Sawyer bed and breakfast is very nice.  The innkeeper keeps wine and snacks out during the afternoon & early evening…. they’re all homemade!

The Primrose is a nice b&b, the Wilbraham Mansion is the only one with an indoor pool.. I stayed there a long time ago and just recently at the Primrose.

Hope your sister has a great time!

@sheri531:  Check out Priceline’s quick deals and bidding plus Hotwire’s hot deals.  I use betterbidding.com to figure out what I need to pay to get certain hotels.  Pretty sure my deal was through Hotwire and I booked it in January 2012 for June 2012 (the deal was gone from the site by April.)

I also signed up for Living Social and Groupon deals for the area so I could get deals on activities (we did a dolphin tour for $8 each!) and restaurants (usually spend $25 and get a $50 certificate.)

If you go make sure to eat at Roastfish and Cornbread.  We also liked Kenny B’s French Quarter Cafe; really casual counter service New Orleans cajun food.  The grain alcohol frozen drinks at the Frosty Frog will get you primed for some fun!  We ate at Hudson’s on the last day; it’s a locals joint with fresh catch of the day and a great view of the water (I recommend ordering the fresh catch grilled or fresh local shrimp; the fried stuff is nothing to write home about.)
