My sister has sort-of offered a timeshare voucher for Hawaii, but hasn’t cleared it with her husband and I’m not sure we should rely on it.  Plus my Fiance honeymooned in Hawaii his first time around and I had a very lackluster visit on Waikiki some years ago, so I’m ho-hum about going there.  But if the offer came to fruition we’d have to seriously research it.

Lake Lure is beautiful! Parts of Dirty Dancing were filmed there, you will love it!

My parents let me use their timeshare, so we got a free honeymoon in Bali.  (DH’s parents gifted us the airfare).  It was wonderful, because it allowed us to spend more money on food and activities!

Have fun!

I went to lake lure this summer, just for a day, we had some family there renting a condo and visited while they were up from Florida. There looks like there is a lot to do, life size checkers/chess, tennis, Putt putt, golf, swimming in pools or lake, lazy river, rental of boats, canoes, etc. It is quiet and nice.

Make sure you get groceries to cook or have as there didn’t look like much to choose from other than the hotel food and pizza, I could be wrong about this though.

I can’t remember how we went in and how we left, but there are two options to get there, make sure you don’t drive in the way we did, very hilly and windy/curvy, the way we went out was only half as bad!

Hey!! I live like 15-20 minutes from Lake Lure, in Hendersonville. If you need any information, feel free to PM me πŸ™‚ Lake Lure is beautiful! While its not filled with things to do, you will enjoy the peace and quiet time together and there is still things to do! There is the lake of course, there are plenty of resteraunts (I suggest La Strada, go in the evening when the sun is setting and sit on the outside deck overlooking the lake), mini golf.. Go to Chimney Rock (small town nearby) and go to Chimney Rock State Park and the little shops downtown. I do suggest making at least a day trip to Asheville. Its a neat place and LOTS to do there. You can visit the biltmore house (a must-see if you’ve never been). This will be most of a day..besides visiting the beautiful home, there is hiking trails, a winery (wine tastings), the gardens and quite a few little shops. If you want to have a more upscale meal, you can eat on site (but its pricey) but if your not down for paying that, there are TONS of chain and local restauraunts in Asheville. I would suggest eating lunch one day at 12 Bones Smokehouse if you like BBQ (its true authentic southern BBQ). You can look up the site for directions, it looks like a whole in the wall but its a population tourist and local place.. (President Obama has stopped here in both his trips to Asheville.. his family even loves it!) and after lunch head over to the Biltmore Estate. You can easily spend 4-5 hours there then head to either downtown Asheville for dinner and maybe a movie, some shopping, etc..

Again, if you have ANY questions about the area feel free to ask me!! Or if you are considering doing/visiting somewhere and aren’t sure if you would enjoy it or want to know more about it, I know the area very well (lived here my entire life minus college years) and can help!

@Brooklyn55:  I forgot all about Chimney Rock being near by.  We went there to hike last July 4th, one of 4 places we hiked at that weekend, well I shouldn’t say hiking, more of stair climbing, but the view of the lake is beautiful!

I have not been to the biltmore, it is one of my to do’s one day.  Do they ever have discounts or can you find discounted tickets – Groupon/Living Social?

@meke:  Unfortunately, I have never seen living social/groupon deal for Biltmore. I don’t really see them ever doing it either.. They have huge crowds without offering major deals. It is a little expensive which is why living in the area, we hardly ever go (and its one of those things that you can only see so many times, I’ve been once in the summer when the flowers were in full bloom and once at Christmas to see all the lights and as a child I went there multiple times on school field trips). They do occasionally run offers directly through the website. Right now, its 10 off if you purchase 7+ days in advance. This time of year is actually pretty pricey because a lot of people want to go at Christmas for decorations, I think they run the biggest promotions during the summer months.
