Darling Husband and I travel a lot. We only leave itineraries when we go to some country where we don’t know anyone locally. We figure we have too many plans for anyone to keep up with, and we check email at least once a day even overseas, so we’re not too hard to reach if someone back home needs us. In terms of us being safe and looked after, if we’re in the US or in a country/city with local friend’s/family, we’ll be fine no matter what comes our way. For the trips overseas where we know no one, we leave flight numbers/airlines/dates and hotel names/dates/phone numbers plus whose name the room is booked under. We usually leave just one copy, with my sister. Truth be told, nobody’s ever had to use it and we fly like 140,000 miles a year.

I did. I had it all laid out for us in a document anyway (flight numbers/airlines/times, hotel contact information, and all the dates) so I just sent it off to my sisters with our travel insurance policy as an FYI in case. Granted, we had a complicated trip with lots of flights and hotels and little faith in having a good internet and phone connections though (went to Africa). No one needed to get in touch, but I think they were happy to have had it.

I always leave an itinerary of sorts with my Fiance or mom (if im with FI) when I travel. I include:

– Flight dates and times

– Airport/city

– Airline and flight number

– Flight confirmation number

– Hotel name and contact info

– Checkin/checkout date

– Confirmation number

If I’m feeling lazy I just forward my confirmation emails! God forbid something happens at home or there is a terrorist attack, I want people to know where I am! Also, if you are traveling internationally, you can register with your embassy in that country online.  https://step.state.gov/step/
