We will be going to Secrets Maroma in the end of October. We booked through CheapCarribean.com and got a pretty good deal.

Look at Panama, too! They have tons of gorgeous all-inclusives (Playa Blanca, DeCameron, etc…) which are tons of fun! Flights can be really cheap at time, too.

My vote is for the Mayan Riviera in Mexico if you want to get off the resort and explore.  There is so much to do in Mexico.  There really isn’t much to do in Punta Cana, DR. Some people complain about the food too.  But, its beaches are nicer than those in Mexico (excpet for Tulum, and possibly the beach at Secrets Maroma outside of Playa del Carmen, though I’ve never seen it in person).  Negril, Jamaica is amazing and has a beautiful beach.  Probably my favorite of the 3 beaches.  There isn’t as much to do outside of the resort as there is in the Mayan Riviera.  A lot of the Jamaicans were nice, but some were extremely, extremely pushy.

ETA: I’d recommend looking into trip insurance if you are going during hurricane season.

Just a warning to those of you going to Secrets Jamaica (ie Wild Orchid or St. James) watch your credit card bill when you get home.  They charged mine without my knowledge for someone else’s excursion and it took more than a month of fighting with them and my credit card company to have the over $300 charge taken off.  Also, if you’re not staying in the priority area, the only thing that really sets apart the beaches are the location and the towel color.  Just go to that side and you’ll get better service.  Lock all your valuables up in the safe- and the little red light that is supposed to tell maid service to leave you alone- yeah they dont really pay attention to it.

We went to Coco’s Hotel in Antigua, and cannot say enough wonderful things about it!  It is adult couples only, and they only have 26 cottages (each room is a private cottage), so it is very intimate and quiet.  Completely all-inclusive, including a free massage.  And since it is so small, you never have to wait for drinks or food or compete for chairs and umbrellas on the beach.  It was the BEST trip I have ever been on.  Originally I had wanted to go to Sandals in Antigua, and was disappointed when my husband didn’t book us there (he planned the whole honeymoon as a surprise, and I got so sad when we didn’t get on the Sandals shuttle after getting so excited when we flew to Antigua!).  But in the end, this was so much better!  They don’t have watersports, but there is a big resort farther down the coast that does offer them for a small fee.  The beach was beautiful, with the BEST bartended ever.  The cottages face out over the water, so you can watch the sunset from your private balcony every night.  Definitely recommend!

We’re also getting married in October! Our honeymoon is in St. Lucia (which I didn’t know even existed until I started researching Caribbean islands! ) and it’s so beautiful there. Our’s is an all inclusive but not adults only 🙁 but it was sooo much more to get adults only. You should really check out any of the resorts in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. My parents just went there a few months ago and for a week all inclusive and airfare it was $2000 for the both of them!!!!!

Good luck on your honeymoon planning, and be careful if you pick Jamaica for October because the average rainfall in October is 6 inches!!!!!

@Kelly S: Which resort did you pick in St. Lucia?

@retroindigo: Our resort in St. Lucia is called Almond Morgan Bay.

There were several all inclusives in the area, some were VERY expensive. Almond Morgan Bay is one of the better priced ones. We weren’t looking for luxury or high class food or world class spas. Our honeymoon will be mostly spent exploring the island and taking tours, so why waste money on a high class resort when we won’t even be there most of the time!

We took a Mediterranean Cruise last October for our honeymoon.  Cruises are pretty much all inclusive, depending on how you set everything up.

The cruise was round trip from Rome (7 days/6 nights) and 2 port stops were beach areas- Sorrento/Capri, Italy and Nice, France. We picked a Princess ship that was really small (only 400 passengars) and there was not a child in sight the entire trip!

Airfare: $1,000 per person, Cruise: $1,000 per person, GRAND TOTAL: $4,000

My best advice is to work with a travel agent.  The price above was the list price for an interior cabin.  Our travel agent scored us a free balcony upgrade because we were on our honeymoon and a $200 on-board credit for each of us ($400 total) to use towards alcoholic drinks, shore excursions, etc.  without us paying any extra money at all.

We’re going to Excellence Playa Mujeres, which is just north of Cancun.  It has great reviews on tripadvisor (and Mrs. Penguin went there and wrote about it on the blog)!

Can’t wait!!

Were getting married in October too, yes it is rainy season but I heard it doesn’t rain in Aruba. So, were going to an all inclusive, 7 nights, air fair, etc. for $4,000.  Aruba doesn’t have a big night life like Mexico and other places but it’s were not big on that ourselves. We looking to relax.
