@Fall2013:  I’ve visited Ocho Rios. It’s beautiful, but stay in or near the resort areas. It’s dangerous to stray. The citizens are poor. They will try to sell you all kinds of crap. If you want to buy souvenirs from them that’s fine but talk them down on the price or they’ll screw you over. You will probably encounter drug dealers as well (they will ask anyone, regardless of age).  If you’re a pot smoker that’s none of my business but remember that contrary to popular belief, mariJuana IS illegal in Jamaica, and you don’t want to get caught with it. My husband got searched, had to drop his pants and everything, because a police dog allegedly smelled it on him. He was innocent of course but it was really embarrassing because my entire family was there.

We honeymooned at Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios, and it was INCREDIBLE. We didn’t leave the resort except for a not particularly noteworthy trip to Margaritaville, so I can’t speak to the area itself… but the resort was fantastic and a perfect spot for a honeymoon!

Dunn’s Rivers Fall is really cool, I’d recommend going there. But like they said there are always people around trying to sell you things

@MrsN14:  100% true…

I have to say that was my favorite Caribbean island.

If you love a nice beach don’t go to Ocho rios. The beach is very small. Also be prepared for at least 1hour and 1/2 drive airporT.

Ocho rios generally has rougher beaches/water as opposed to negril which is calmer.

there aren’t as many things to do in ocho rios unless you drive far.

Just do some research, there are some off the beaten path things to do.

jamaica is not dangerous if you go off the resort.   Yes people will try to sell you things but just say no thanks and keep walking, yes they are poor but poor doesnt equal dangerous.

jamaica and its people are amazing.
