I have what may be a stupid question but I am going to ask anyway! My fiance and I are booking our honeymoon *YAYYYY!!!** but for the flights, which name would I put for myself? It asks for the name issued on your government ID but my ID may be changing soon and I don’t want to miss out on the JetBlue flights that are on sale now since there are only a few left! Should I wait to change my ID till after the honeymoon or will it matter either way? Thanks in advance Bees!!

Wait to change your last name and ID until after the honeymoon, and book as your name now. Unless your honeymoon is delayed by several months.

mrsctobe060814: It just depends on what name is on your ID at the time of your honeymoon. It takes several weeks to change your name and recieve your documents, so if your honeymoon is immediately after your wedding, I would use your maiden name.

You won’t be able to get new IDs until after the wedding and your ID has to match the name on your flight. So use your maiden name and keep it through the honeymoon (for ID purposes, you can introduce yourself with new name) and go through the name change process when you get back.

You travel under whatever name your passport (or other relevant ID) is in. So unless you can formally change your name before you fly out on honeymoon you are best to book tickets in your maiden name. Over here airlines won’t let you fly if you turn up with ID in one name and a ticket booked in another.

mrsctobe060814: Definitely your maiden name. Thats what we booked mine as for our flights because our honeymoon is 2 days after the wedding, so obviously I can’t have time to change it. I did have fun and booked our hotel under “Mr. and Mrs. FI’s name” because that obviously doesn’t matter.

mrsctobe060814: The majority of women fly on their honeymoon using their maidem name. But it really depends how long after your wedding your honeymoon will be. If you’re 100% sure you can change your name before the flight you can take the risk, but if any problems crop up you may not be able to get a refund.

Yep, maiden name if your honeymoon is right after your wedding! The name on your boarding pass needs to match the name on your ID. 🙂

Name change will not be a quick process, so unless your honeymoon is several months after your wedding – book it in your maiden name!

mrsctobe060814: yes, the names need to match. so if you book your flight with your married name and don’t get around to chaning your driver’s license to your new name, you will have to pay the fee to change the name on the ticket.
i waited until a month after i got back from my honeymoon to start changing my name on all my papers.
