- Wedding: February 2012
AHhh the long awaited honeymoon recap.. sorry I took waaaay too long to get this up. We had a very dramatic month upon return!! But here it is FINALLY. Our honeymoon!! (I’ll try and keep it short for reading but feel free to ask any questions)
Yes we got married in February (see recap here http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/full-recap-it-rained-on-our-wedding-25022012-but-it-was-perfect-pic-heavy-1) but decided to take our honeymoon in May as its a bit warmer in the US then (especially Alaska). Getting back into work and waiting for our honeymoon was a little torture..but we did have a week off after the wedding and we took the dogs camping so we had a little “campingmoon” to shake off the wedding stress!!
My husband and I have dreamed of going to Alaska since we’ve been together 6 years….coming from Australia it is A) expensive and B) a long way… so lots of money needed to be saved and lots of time needed to be taken off work! We were very lucky to have all our friends and family chip in for our honeymoon as our wedding present and we managed to get 4 weeks off work!!!
SO…on the last day of April off we flew…we flew straight to Vancouver, CANADA…as this was the cheapest return flight deal we could get for what we wanted to do… we spent a couple of days exploring Vancouver…Granville Island Markets, Grouse Mountain, Capilliano Suspension Bridge, we tried to fit as much in as possible but it was hard…definately need to come back to Canada soon to see more!!!
It was all so beautiful taking the ferry across..a very beautiful city!! We were pretty awestruck at this stage..especially since it was husbands first time out of australia!
We were blown away by the forests.. sooo green and lush compared to the dry forest we have back home!
Even saw these GORGEOUS bears up Grouse Mountain and got snowed on for the first time ever for my husband!! And some wolves!
So after a quick visit in Canada we flew to LAS VEGAS!!!! and wow what a contrast!!!!
Vegas was unlike anything I’ve EVER seen… it was amazing! Not sure if I would go back there as a couple but with a group of friends it would be loads of fun! Here we are on the Strip! We stayed at the Luxor which was nice… but next time I think we’d stay just off the Strip and closer to the middle!
After a few nights in Vegas our feet were KILLING!! haha
After Vegas we flew to New York! Here we stayed the weekend with some friends (one my husband had worked with in Australia but now lives in the US) They live in New Jersey…we had such and amazing time and fell in LOVE with the suburbs… could really see ourselves living there! They showed us round… taking us the Jersey State Park, Jersey Shore, we went to Six Flags… BEST PLACE EVER (lol) and they took us into Manhattan aswell. We then stayed 2 nights in Manhattan by ourselves… loved central park… it was so unbelieveable to be in New York..of course it all feels like a dream now!
After leaving New York we had some major flight dramas which makes me NEVER want to fly with UNITED again.. and eventually arrived in Anchorage, Alaska a day late.. When we touched down I though my heart would explode… I was sooo excited!!! My husband and I couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces… from the airport we headed to our RV hire place… We had booked 10 days of our little RV and we were driving around Alaska ourselves. This next 10 days were the best days of my life.. we had such an amazing time… Just us the wilderness and a map..oh it was bliss! We drove from Anchorage in a loop up the Fairbanks and back down and across the Glenn highway stoppping at places all along the way! Incrediable! Denali National Park was stunning… there was still alot of snow around.. as apparently Alaska had one of the bigeest winter snowfalls around in 60 years..so alot of touristy things were still closed but that didn’t matter to us. We saw moose, caribou, porcupines, birds, squirrels and the magic of the wild. We went to hot springs, we went on sled dog rides…we loved Alaska sooo much ( wished we could move there to live!!) The wild and nature really pulled on my heart strings… anyways…heres some photos of the road trip!
So at the end of our 10 days we were back in Anchorage…and had to give back the RV ๐ From there we were going to drive down to Homer and Seward but due to losing a day back in delayed flights in NY and a small car error booking on my behalf we had to skip Homer… I was really sad about this cause I really really wanted to go there.. (next time now!) So instead we took the Alaskan Railroad down to Seward… IT WAS SOOOO WORTH IT! Most amazing scenic bit of rail ever! Here are so photos I took through the train windows!
So we arrived a Seward Alaska…and spent a night there..exploring the cute little town… for the next day… we boarded our cruise ship!!! Royal Caribean – Radiance of the Seas
WE spent 7 nights cruising the inner aisle of Alaska! Gorgeous… we relaxed, sat by the pool and read, sat in the hot tub and watched the amazing views go by! It was a great end to the holiday!!
And thats it! An amazing holiday..worth the 21 hour flight to get to the otherside of the world… hope to get back there soon! COld honeymoons rock! Hope you enjoyed!
