Hey bees! Even if you aren’t going to Belize for your honeymoon, I would totally recommend it for a trip. If you are the type of people who want to get away from hotels and crowds and just enjoy time with each other and the ocean, this is your place!
We booked with Suya Tours, and they were fabulous. They let us use the snorkel gear all week even though we only had one full day and one half day of snorkel tours through them. We took the Hol Chan/Shark and Ray Alley tour and the all day beach BBQ). Also, we booked a half day of fishing. The sea kayak was amazing to paddle out to the reef or down the coast to the mangroves. Keep a good eye out, there are tons of heron/egret types of birds in the trees.
And if you felt like something less strenuous, you could snorkel around the surrounding docks and the artificial reef right off the Casita’s private beach. This may sound uneventful, but we saw moray eels, stingrays and all manner of fish just around the docks. Bring several cheap underwater cameras or splurge a bit on a underwater digital!
We really enjoyed the Hidden Treasure restaurant, it was sooo romantic and great service. If you want to have it all to yourself, head over around the time they open (5-530pm) since most people don’t come out until past 6. We went to Victoria House for breakfast, but were pretty disappointed, so skip it unless you don’t want to cook for yourself one morning.
Instead, head to “The Bakery” in town and buy a loaf of their cinnamon bread and make french toast, it was the best we have ever had! Or, if you are in town from 7-10 am, you can go to one of the vendors working out of a little shack and get these amazing tortilla/chicken things. Wolfgang, the Casita/Casa’s host, will know where to take you.
Wolfgang is a wonderful host. He and Eldon (the groundskeeper) stay out of the way if you want your peace and quiet, but are always there to answer questions or give suggestions if you need some input. Cookie, Afie, and “solar dog” are also wonderful companions that will make you smile every day!
A few pointers: bring bug spray and a ton of sunscreen. We got really bit up when we weren’t on the beach in the breeze, and we are both fair so we got really burned even though we had sunscreen on all the time (SPF 50 too!). If you like to go out at night, hit up the local bars on the weekends. Otherwise, select from a huge variety of lounge chairs and soak up the sun and relax!!!
And here are some photos, because you know the old addage “one photo…”:
pardon the face….I just finished a 30 minute battle with this 30lb fish.

Such a beautiful place!
