Hi Bees! My SO and I are starting to talk about ideas on where to go/what to do for our honeymoon. And we have so many ideas and options, it’s going to be hard to pick just one!
I was hoping you might be able to help us eliminate a few options. Did anyone regret their choice of destination or itinerary, and if so, why?
For example, did you splurge on 10 days in Fiji but wound up getting bored with too much beach-time despite the beautiful surroundings? Did you do a cruise and wish you’d chosen something that provided more personal space/bigger quarters? Did you wish you’d splurged more or do you wish you’d saved more money and been more economical? Was your dream destination just a disappointment? If so, why?

We took a minimoon to Vegas. We only had 4 nights there. It would have been great to have more time. We took a short trip because of my work schedule but I wish we had somehow arranged more time.
We had a couples massage on the last day. We wish we had done it on the first day because it really relaxed us!

We did a week in Italy (Rome/Florence) and a week in Greece (Athens, Mykonos, Santorini) and I wish we hadn’t spent so much time touring around Rome. It was exhausting walking around 8 hours a day. However, ending in Mykonos and Santorini was a dream and so relaxing and much more honeymoon like.

We went to Hawaii (Hawaii and Maui) for about 6 days – 3 on each island. I wish we could have stayed on both longer! I cried when we had to leave.

We did a tour in Italy which we actually really enjoyed because we aren’t big on “sit and do nothing” vacations but we did a mid-level one-basically one step above like a Contiki tour. I wish we had just paid for the “luxury” tour. We stayed about 3/4 the time in chain hotels and ate at just okay restaurant. I did a luxury level tour in Europe before and it was amazing with the coolest little hotels and ate at incredible restaurants and had better tour stops. I wish we had splurged for our honeymoon!! But the tour was worth it for us overall as we don’t speak a bit of Italian and would have struggled to travel on our own. If we had gone to a country we spoke the language for, I wouldn’t do a tour but it was nice to not try to navigate transit and such in a foreign language.

We’re going to New Orleans this weekend, currently it’s supposed to storm the entire time so I’m already regretting it, but I know we’ll make the most of it as we have fun everywhere we go.
We went to Europe and Mexico recently, which is why we are doing a smaller trip for our honeymoon.
Europe was obviously not our honeymoon, but we were there for two weeks and I think we went to way too many places, it was exhausting moving around so much, so something to think about if you’re planning a multi-location honeymoon.

We went to the Maldives and Dubai. Flying from our city to Maldives has a mandatory layover so we opted to do it in Dubai and stay a few days there on our way back. I LOVED the Maldives and where we stayed. I regret our choice of airline (Emirates) and did not like Dubai, although I don’t regret traveling there. We had a horrible experience flying Emirates and I would recommend to avoid flying with them. We missed the first night of our honeymoon because their delayed flight caused us to miss our connecting flight to the Maldives and their next flight wasn’t until early the next morning. They were not apologetic at all and did nothing nice for us to try and make up for it. Our flight back home with them was delayed 4 hours.

We did Japan and I loved it. We didn’t want to sit around and do nothing, but if I had my time again I’d probably travel less – we went from city to city four different times in two weeks so it got pretty exhausting and expensive. Looking back there was well and truly enough to do so we could have stayed in the same place longer and travel ended up being our biggest expense. I probably would only do two cities if I was to do it over.

hannahshope : which tour company if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve loved contiki in the past but would love something nicer now!

futuremrs2020 : For what it’s worth, it rarely storms all day. The forecast shows high percentages of storms almost every day, but it usually only storms for a little while in the afternoon, if at all. For example, our forecast today (I’m on the Mississippi coast) was 50% chance of storms. It rained for about 10 minutes at noon and then was sunny the rest of the day. Just be forewarned that it is hot as balls.
To answer to OP’s question, we spent 6 days at an all inclusive in Jamaica. We wanted a relaxing vacation of laying around doing nothing. We did do a couple of excursions which kept us from being too bored. It isn’t my typical vacation because I usually like to go and see sights and things, but it was awesome to relax after months of planning.

I LOVED our honeymoon. No regrets at all. We are a very active couple and don’t like the idea of laying around on the beach for a whole week, we’d get way too bored. We booked a two week adventure package in Costa Rica. We went white water rafting, skydiving, bungee jumping, cayoneering, surfing, kayaking, snorkling, and saw so many cool animals. It was such a great time and I’m so glad we did it!

I loved my honeymoon – we spent a week in Santorini, Greece. We stayed in a villiage called Imerovigli and I’m glad we chose that over the busier Oia and Fira. No regrets at all. On a prior trip to Europe, we had split our 12 days between 3 different locations and felt like we moved around too much so my advice would be to spend more time in fewer places. We didn’t get bored at all.

We just recently got back from our honeymoon, and I honestly loved every moment of it! We went to Maui for a week, and had the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. We snorkeled with turtles, kayaked, rented jet skis, went on a sailing trip to Lana’i, did snuba, walked around the shops of Lahaina, did the road to Hana, and still had plenty of time to relax and splash in the pool!

Still waiting to go, but we are an active couple and we cram a lot into 3 day weekends. We are looking forward to an all inclusive beach resort in Belize for a change of pace and scenery.
