My Fiance and I are getting married in June, and we would love to take our honeymoon immediately after the wedding. We are paying for about half of the wedding ourselves, so that coupled with our student loan payments means we don’t have an extravagant budget for the honeymoon. My friend suggested waiting and taking a honeymoon several months/years after the wedding, but I’m afraid if we don’t do it right away life will get busy and we never will. I know we don’t HAVE to take a honeymoon, but I love the idea of getting away with my new husband for a few days to relax after the wedding.
So here’s where you all come in: I’m looking for suggestions for a budget-friendly yet still awesome honeymoon. My Fiance has never been out of the country and says he “really wants to need a passport for the honeymoon.” We are both pretty adventurous and could be happy lying on a beach somewhere or hiking in mountains or exploring cool cities. Any suggestions?

Fiance REAAALLYY REALLLYY wanted to go to Jamaica but we just couldn’t swing it, what with having lots of student loan debt ourselves and paying for 100% of the wedding. He compromised and asked for a beach (which is what I wanted too) so we’re going to South Padre Island. We get nice beaches and great weather, plus since it’s off season there a NICE hotel was totally affordable for 9 days. We live in TX so we can drive down and not have to rent a car. This leaves us a lot more money for activities and good eating. I wanted to make memories and DO things together, not spend our entire budget on airfare to go somewhere and sit in a hotel room.

@agrinste1: It would help if you stated where you live now. 🙂

Check Groupon.com and the getaway section. There are always good deals that come up!

@agrinste1: You might consider watching Groupon Getaways and Living Social Escapes for excellent deals to the Carribean in June 🙂

We live in North Dakota, so there’s not really ease of access to a major airport (we usually fly out of Minneapolis). We don’t have a defined budget, but I would love to keep it at or under $3000 (I know, I might be dreaming in color).

- Wedding: August 2013 - Rocky Mountains USA
Flights to Puerto Rico can be pretty cheap, and they have great beaches / snorkeling / boat trips / etc! Or maybe the Canadian Rockies? Road trip it?

There are tons of awesome all inclusives in Riveria Maya for under $3k including flights. Cruises are also a good budget friendly idea!

Do you or any of your family members have a Costco membership? I know it’s random, but they have amazing vacation packages. You could definitely book a trip to an all inclusive in Mexico with them for that budget, flights included. Also, have you looked into doing a caribbean cruise? You can find great deals on flights to Miami and cruise rates for under $100/night.

@agrinste1: Well hello fellow ND bride 🙂
We fly out of Bismarck when we travel, but no biggies if you fly out of MN. We took a cruise. The cruise was 2000 and some and the flight was about 100 and some. Plus extra stuff, so my idea for you wouldn’t work.
If you want to keep within your budget, I would stay in the states. perhaps an all-inclusive resort somewhere? You MIGHT be able to find an all-inclusive out of the states that matches your budget.
If it were up to us, we would have gone back to WY back to the Grand Tetons. We like that more than beach (of course it resembles ND more).

If you don’t mind a fair bit of driving, head to Vancouver— beautiful city and while it’s generally not a beachy destination, there are plenty of chances to relax on or near the water. Lots of ferries and sightseeing cruises. Stop for a night in Washington State, maybe Walla Walla wine country to try some new wines. Tons of romantic, affordable B&B’s out that way. Hit Seattle while you’re over there.
