@busykaty:  i would suggest a cruise! a few years back i went with a friend of mine and her family and it was an amazing time!! it was all-inclusive (except for alcohol and certain specialty resataurants).. there was a TON to do on the ship, we stopped in really good ports (Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Aruba, Cayman Islands).. and we spent a good deal of time in each one/were able to get in some awesome activities. when we stopped in Costa Rica we were able to go on an 8hr excursion where we went ziplining through the forest and went white water rafting- it was amazing. most cruises typically leave from Florida but you can find them leaving at various cities that are on the coastline, and you can find them to practically anywhere in the world. vacationstogo.com is a pretty good site to find discount cruises..

otherwise.. if youre looking for a resort area with those requirements i’d suggest Atlantis in the Bahamas. i went there this past October with my fiance and his family and it was very nice! about 20min from the airport.. tons of water things.. we went snorkeling.. they have this place called Dolphin Cay where you can swim with dolphins.. it was definitely safe.. as far as price, i’m not sure all i paid for was my plane ticket and some gifts to bring back home!

well, i would suggest Couples Negril Jamaica… only thing is that it is an hour drive from the airport… but honestly…. that didn’t bother us at all!   it cost us 2000 each but we are coming from Canada and we stayed 8 days… i know it costs less from the states.   But it has all your other must haves except the drive.

The easiest thing will be go go with a Sandals resort and book when they have a special (which is like every other day, just get on their email list).

I have stayed at the Dreams Punta Cana and Secrets St. James Montego Bay and loved them both! They are resonably priced also! Check out cheapcarribean.com there are lots of options to choose from.

“Americanized”???

So, you want the perks of being somewhere exotic without the pesky responsibility of having to immerse yourself in another culture. As someone who has been to 28 different countries, I find this pretty horrifying and kind of sad. Travel is an opportunity to broaden your horizens, not stick your head in the sand!

@busykaty:  altantis really was great! we stayed at one of the timeshare locations but it wasnt a main atlantis resort so it was a bit cheaper. the whole place was beautiful! and we had access to the entire waterpark which was pretty awesome (the rides were the best). and the shopping/food is great too, kind of expensive, but overall it really is a nice place to visit. im sure whatever you do will be great 🙂

@crayfish:  Thank you. I had the exact same thought.

My only suggestion is to state in the States, what’s the point otherwise?
