My Fiance and I are starting our search for the perfect (and budget friendly) honeymoon spot. I have never been out of the country, farthest I’ve gone is the Keys, and am so excited to go somehwere tropical. All I really care about is seeing some beautiful beach and clear water! (Not the mucky stuff I’m used to in the Chesapeake Bay : ) ) We live in MD, so we’re looking for something that won’t break the bank in regards to both airfare and accomodations. My Fiance has been out of the country, to Denmark and a few other spots, but his only concern is that we stay somewhere all inclusive. We’re HOPING that we can find something all inclusive with airfare for under $2,000…… Any suggestions/help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Our Wedding is June 28, 2014 and we’re hoping to be off to paradise (wherever that may be) within a couple days after the wedding.

The Caribbean is a great option. We went to Aruba and loved it! But Maui, Hawaii has been my favorite vacation ever! And I’ve been to a lot of Caribbean islands. The bummer about Hawaii is that they don’t have all inclusives. But you can stay in a hotel that has a kitchen in the room and cook “cheap” meals, or go out to restaurants.
Other good Caribbean locations that I’ve been to are Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, the Cayman Islands, Belize, and Cancun/Riviera Maya, Mexico, which is gorgeous and has a lot of fun excersions you can do!
Finding somewhere for $2,000 might be hard, we paid $5,000 for our week in Aruba at the fanciest all inclusive for reference.

@Kms415: Couples just opened a resort in Barbados. I was curious, so I priced a week out in late June and it was $2500 for the whole week in the most basic room!

We are going to Couple in Negirl, Jamaica. We are going for 8 nights, a room on the beach, airfare, taxes, gratuities, and airport transfers included for $3,000! Maybe you could look into their, cut back a few nights and do the garden rooms to get within your budget? My travel agent has been there 9 times and absolutely loves it.
Couple things that may or may not work for you but we loved: couples only (so no “springbreakers”) she said still usually a great crowd and they keep the nightclub open until everyone is gone regardless of time; adults only which was a must for us; and it is close to a nudiest resort and the beach is clothing optional which most people chose not too.
Congrats and good luck finding something!

@Kms415: You can certainly be within your budget with a cruise that departs from Baltimore. There are Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruises that departs from Baltimore multiple times per year. This means no airfare required.
I take a cruise at least once a year, and our honeymoon will be on one as well. This is how I know about the Baltimore departures, even though I have never departed from there.
They go places like Nassau, Bermuda, Cozumel, St. Maarten, Jamaica, and even Canada.
You will have the time of your life cruising!

There are lots of great options in the Caribbean. Also, since you’re in MD Bermuda is a great option. I’m not sure of flight costs, but my stepsis took a cruise from MD to Bermuda (no airfare!) and she said it was fabulous (but I don’t know if a cruise is appealing to you guys or not…).

If you’re going in early July 2014 then you’re smack in the middle of off-season for the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. You’re pretty much going to have your pick of places for that time. I’ve found us deals for under $2000 at uber-fancy resorts at the very tail end of low season/beginning of high season.
Basically for the region you’re looking at, the best websites are cheapcaribbean.com, bookit.com and allinclusiveoutlet.com.
I’d recommend the Riviera Maya or DR, specifically the Samana region over Punta Cana-but honestly, you can’t go wrong with Mexico. The further down you go away from Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the less crowded the beaches will be and you’ll have the opportunity to do cultural stuff related to the Mayan civilization if you get bored with just beach stuff.
Since you’re traveling during off-season, buy trip insurance.

@Kms415: We’re in DE so I know all about that yucky chesapeake water
we’re flying out of BWI and going to Punta Cana (all-inclusive) in the DR. We’re leaving Monday and coming home Friday. We booked through a travel agent in Aberdeen, we didn’t have to go there for anything. She was great! Our trip is around $2100 total for the both of us!

@littlemiss511: Punta Cana sounds awesome! Who was the travel agent??? Maybe we’d be better off with someone who has a little experience : ) Thanks so much!

@monkeyinasuit: Which resorts would you recommend? I definitely wouldn’t mind Mexico. My cousin got married last year and they went to Riveira Maya and loved it. We love to have fun, but it might be nice to be somewhere that isn’t too crazy : ) Thanks!

@jhey83: A friend went to the couple’s resort in Jamaica and loved it! We will definitely have to look into that! We’re definitely looking for something that is Adult only. Thanks! 🙂

The two that I found running a deal during Thanksgiving that seemed pretty good were the Catalonia Royal Tulum and the Valentin Imperial Maya. Both are very highly rated adult-only AI on TripAdvisor and I really regret not buying the deal because it would have cost us approximately $1800-$1900 for 7D/6N*! I’ve since found even better deals on the Bahia Principes in the Samana district of DR, esp. their Cayo Leventado property (seriously, google that shit) for 8D/7N during Thanksgiving holiday week.
When I went to Playa del Carmen it was because my mom had won her national sales award again, and it was her recognition trip and since it was scheduled during my birthday she and my dad paid for ticket/stay at the resort her company had picked out. I forget which one it was.
Honestly, if I can find these deals at the very start of “peak” season during a holiday week…I think you’ll be fine.
*that said, we live in a major metro area with 3 big airports, so prices from our neck of the woods are always available on deal sites. YMMV.
