Let me start by saying I have never been to either place.

When we were planning our honeymoon (well mainly FI) he talked with a guy at work who had been to Dreams Resorts and Spas.  He had been to 2 different ones and to a Sandals resort.  He said he liked the Dreams Resorts just as much and at the time he went it was about 1/2 the cost.

I do not know about the cost difference now.  And for some reason my Fiance chose to go ahead with Sandals.  I think this mainly comes from the fact the guy he works with moved to a new location right after he told us about this resort and Fiance couldn’t find out the 2 he had been to.  He was more comfortable just going with Sandals.  We needed to book fairly soon so he went with what he knew more about.

I looked at the Dreams Resort website and it all looked fabulous.  I actually sometimes wish we had chosen that resort because I have heard many negative reviews about Sandals; however, I do understand that the majority of people write reviews when they are upset with something, not when they are pleased.

That was probably wayyy too much information.  I hope it helps somewhat!

Where are you planning on Honeymooning?

I know in Jamica a lot of Bees go to the Couples resorts. They are only in Jamica however.

We are going to Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica this august! Its definitely less expensive than Sandals resorts. If you book both the airline and hotel together its always a better deal, and also the earlier u book, the better deals they have for people willing to put a deposit down. Try CheapCarribean.com or Allinclusiveoutlet.com or even the Couples sites!

I have never been to a resort before, but we booked our honeymoon at the El Dorado Casitas Royale in Riviera Maya, Mexico. We booked through a travel agent who is the top Sandals respresentative in the U.S. and she and her husband love the El Dorado. I’ve also heard the Excellence resorts are awesome, too! Good luck and happy planning!

@13junebride:  FI and I went to the travel agent to book a trip to Sandles and she recommended “Secrets”  resorts and pretty much all the resorts owned by AMResorts. Our travel agent is a family friend and my whole family has been working with them for close to 20 years so we really trust her. But I still did research for about 3 months before we decided to book Secrets Maroma Beach in Playa Del carmen.

They are an all inclusive like Sandles but newer, and closer. Secrets employees (I don’t know about the other resorts employees) go through I believe 2 months of training. They hold their employees to VERY high standard and only want the best of the best. And I hear it shos. They have rave reviews on Tripadvisor.com.

We origionally wanted to go to Sandles in St. Lucia but the airfare was almost 2k and we didn’t want to waste 1/2 a day traveling. So then we thought Hawaii, it about the same amount of $ and they don’t have any adults only all inclusives in Hawaii.

I haven’t been to either, but I know many people that have. And Secrets have won over the people that used to love Sandles. Just something to look into!!

I had a friend tell me that she loved the resort in Jamaica that she went to; however, she was upset at seeing all of the poor areas outside the resort.  She said it made her feel bad to be in a 4 or 5 star hotel and see when they drove in or out for excursions seeing the poor who could never afford the luxury she had.  Something to think about if you think that would ruin a trip for you.

I just got home from Couples Sans Souci and it was the most amazing resort I’ve ever been to!!!  I couldn’t recommend it enough!  Look up the Trip Advisor reviews of it!  It was about half the price of Sandals with all the same inclusions and equally as beautiful.

One of the blogger bees from a couple of years ago did a review on her stay at Zoetry http://www.zoetryresorts.com/resorts.html in Mexico and I was completely sold! I’ve never been because we honeymooned at Sandals and are invited to a Destination Wedding at a Sandals next year so they are getting all of our business by default but Zoetry is on my wish list is we evr do another adult only AI it sems to have more of a wellness/spa focu and from her recap, the food and yoga sounded amazing.
