So I’ve decided to get a hoop skirt for my dress but I’m not sure if I should use it or not because I’ve heard that it can be a problem to sit in. I was wondering If anyone had any tips for sitting in a hoop skirt? My dress is fairly heavy can that help keep it down? Thanks!
ETA: The hoop skirt I bought is a 3 ring, adjustable hoop skirt.

I used to play in them all the time, my mom had several left over from her wedding. There is a hoop right under the rear, if you lift that hoop when you sit above the rear then the skirt will not bell up. It does take a few practice trys to get it gracefully but after one or two times doing it, easy peasy.

@tksjewelry: Thanks! I’ll start practicing.

@noenyu:I wore a massive hoop skirt. If yours is adjustable, then chances are you don’t need to do anything differently. Hoop skirts back in the day weren’t adjustable and were made of unbendable metal hoops. Nowadays, most of the hoops I hear about are adjustable meaning the metal bends and can conform to your movements. Still kind of difficult to deal with it in close quarters. But not nearly as scary as some of the turtorials I’d watched on YouTube. You could still check out those turtorials by searching for “hoop skirt.” But it really isn’t as bad as it sounds. And it made my dress so much easier to maneuver for the day!

@noenyu: I wore a 3 ring hoop skirt on our wedding day. I don’t really have any tips for you. But, I can tell you that the good (keeping the weight of the dress of of your legs to keep you cool) outways the bad (sitting in gown, which you won’t do much of) when wearing a hoop skirt. Good luck with the advice!

Love this thread! Any more tips on hoop skirts? How many bones you need, for instance? Or how to know if you need the extra layers of tulle to hide the bones from showing through the skirt?

Thanks everyone! I was still debating on using it or not because of the sitting issue but it actually doesn’t seem that bad.
@rosworms: Thank you so much for that video, it was very helpful. Except for the number of rings, my hoop skirt is exactly the same. Love the jellyfish! lol

I am wearing one too. I have worn one before and lifting the top hoop as previously suggested keeps you from showing all. LOL
