I’ve found that hoops make most dresses I tried on more comfortable. They gave me room around my legs to walk normally rather than having to kick layers of fabric out of the way.

@almost mrs: I am so thankful that I wore a three ring hoop skirt!!  It helped to keep the heavy silk off of my body on a very sticky, summer’s day!  The only challenge was sitting down to eat because the hoop tended to raise up and didn’t fit very well under the table. But, it wasn’t like I was sitting very long for the toasts and dinner.  In response to your other question, the hoop was not visible underneath my dress (see pic).  When you go in for alterations, the seamstress should have some samples that you can try out.  Good luck!

I’m interested in hearing about people’s experiences with hoops too! My wedding is June 2012 so it will be warm and I bought a small one on ebay, hopefully it will work with my dress

I need some kind of underskirt for my dress, because I’m short and my lace dress can’t be hemmed.

I tried on an extra crinoline with tulle layers in the store, and it was hot, and like SpecialSundae said, I was kicking it out of the way in order to walk.

Instead: we sewed in a hoop into the underlayer of my dress, it sit underneath the sewn-in tulle and you can’t tell at all. It makes my dress move so easily (and twirl amazingly well)

@almost mrs: Awww…thanks so much!  The hoop skirt was soooo comfy.  I couldn’t even feel it.  I really only noticed it when I sat down to eat, but I didn’t show anyone my panties…promise!  Wink  Here’s a pic of one that was similar to mine (sorry the pic is HUGE).

do a search on You Tube.  There are a few videos on there of people showing you how to walk and sit in a hoop skirt.

Tips such as when sitting down on a chair, lifting the back of the hoop up as you sit so it doesnt jump up at the front and flash everyone.  Things like that.

Actually I will see if I can find then again for you.

@Firie:  Glad that I found these videos. I am thinking of using a hoop with my dress and I don’t know anyone to ask about the logistics of it. 🙂
