(Closed) horrible dress VENT

How did you get it altered, and it’s still too long?  (I guess that part isn’t the bride’s fault.)

I haven’t seen what you’re thinking done, but myabe you could bring a different dress, just in case.  It’s one thing to not like the dress.  (I think we have to suck it up sometimes.)  But it’s another for you to be overheated, or really uncomfortable.  I would say if you could wait until not only after pictures, but maybe after the first dances, cake cutting, Bridal Party dance.  Granted there’ll only be about 2 hours left in the day.  And it won’t be the hours with the sun beating down, but at that point it wouldn’t seem that crazy to put on something different.

If it’s just a matter of not liking the look, I think you should just wear it.  But if it somehow truly causes problems, I think, it’s Ok to have a back up plan.  And to be honest, the bride probably should have taken your comfort into consideration.

Am I terrible for wanting to see a picture of the horrible dress? 😉

Seriously, I think it is just so wrong to inflict bad dresses on women that are supposed to be your friends. Could you accidentally-on-purpose, like, step on the hem and tear it so you would HAVE to change? After you’ve been immortalized in the photos, of course.

Have you brought how awful you look to the attention of the crazy Future Mother-In-Law or bride? I’m just saying, at my wedding I wouldn’t want anyone to look totally awful and would probably allow changing for the reception…

Ahhhh! Oh no, that’s not a good situation at all! As much as you’d rather not wear this dress I get the feeling from your posts that you’re much too nice to hurt your friend. I’ve never seen a Bridesmaid or Best Man change part way through the wedding and I think it could be obvious. Even after the cake etc there’s quite a few "bridal party" moments and pictures and she might be really upset to see you changed.

Good luck!

You are a trooper and a good friend. We commend you, bad-dress bridesmaid!

Kittyachi, I actually have seen a bridesmaid change out of an ugly bridesmaid’s dress for the reception!  It was the bride’s sister, so she probably had a bit more flexibility to get away with something like that.  But I couldn’t blame her at all.  That wedding was all-around beautiful and fun (great food, great venue, great music, bride looked gorgeous), but the bridesmaid’s dresses were beyond hideous.  I’m still baffled about how that awful dress ended up in that beautiful wedding!  It was shiny, with an emerald green skirt, a mustard yellow halter top, and a weird, twisted yellow-green belt with a giant rhinestone buckle.  Really, really bizarre.

It sounds like there’s really nothing you can do to make the dress any better on the day of the wedding. But, wouldn’t it be fun to get her back by turning it into a couple of throw pillows and gifting them to her the following week? Is that evil? Yeah, it is. Well, at least it gives you something to smile about when you’re sweating it out in the sunshine.

"Sometimes I think brides secretly choose hideous dresses so they look that much more beautiful on the big day :)"

Kittyachi, that was pretty much the only explanation I could think of for that dress!
