OOOOh those are BOTH cute.  One being an acutal Place Card, and the other a Place Card Holder.

To @Allyg: if it fits with your overall theme, I don’t see WHY it wouldn’t work.  As the Ladies have shown there are some nice choices out there (GOOGLE to find some more options)

When I’ve been at other Formal Events where there was Reserved Seating, there was either a Seating Chart… OR Escort Cards / Place Cards.

If the latter they were usually arranged alphabetically so one could find their own quickly… and it would have on it written somewhere as well what Table Number.

If there was no Formal Place Cards on the Table to identify where one was to be seated, then the Escort Card became the Place Card, and people would leave it at their chosen spot… either above their plate or on it.  Then they’d go off to mingle, grab a cocktail, etc.

The UPSIDE to not doing actually Place Cards that are placed out at each place setting is it is less work for the Hostess.

The DOWNSIDE is that people who don’t normally attend Formal Events don’t really have a clue on how things work… so they can become easily confused by all this.

Hope this helps,

@Allyg:  We arranged our escort cards alphabetically by first name. We had a small wedding and luckily only had a couple of repeat names. People found their names/cards quite easily.
