I packed mine at around 30 weeks because I’m bored and nesting.  Just put it in his truck along with a seperate baby bag, and the carseat this past weekend.

I completely overpacked, as usual.

For me:
Going home outfit
Blanket for him
Shower gel, soap, loofah, razor, lotion, etc.
Housecoat
Socks

Bobby pins/hair ties
Toothpaste
Full bum underwear that I don’t mind tossing (6 pack)

For Baby:
Multiple outfits so I can play dress up
Headbands
Two different brands of pacifiers, sterilized and in a sterile milk storage bag

I also wrote a note and taped it to my fridge wirth all the last minute things we need to grab:
Toothbrushes x2
Deodorant x2
Cell phone chargers
Laptop and charger
Change of clothes for him
Purse containing wallet and make up etc.

@eecuadrado:

The only thing that’s excessive really is the baby bag.  But I plan on just leaving it in hubbies truck after we get back, so I packed diapers and wipes and extra clothes and it came with a travel change pad…  but it’s for a reason.

@eecuadrado:

True.  Last time I loaded my ipod with music I thought I would want to listen to while in labour.  When it was time, my labour was so fast and intense I actually didn’t listen to it whatsoever.

@cali_cat: The package had diapers, wipes, cream, shampoo and lotion. We only had a two-night stay. It was only $30 but we figured we already had all the stuff so we packed it 🙂

@eecuadrado:  I prepped a few things around 37.5 weeks and finished packing it when I went into labor at 38+1 (wasn’t expecting an early arrival obviously!)

Honestly, I didn’t use most of what I packed (and I packed super light to begin with).  I wore a gown the entire time in the hospital except on the day I went home. I used my shower stuff, a little makeup and a hair dryer on the day I went home.

Don’t forget cell phone and camera chargers.

Darling Husband didn’t pack anything. We live 1 mile from the hospital so he went home early every morning to shower.

The only thing I used for baby was a going home outfit and carseat.  Car seat wasn’t even installed yet – Darling Husband installed it at some point before we came home.

I had a pretty fast labor though (admitted at 4cm at 10:30 am and was pushing at 3:30 pm) so I didn’t really have time to do anything. I had thought I might read the rest of my baby book but I didn’t feel like it. Darling Husband and I mostly just hung out and talked the whole time.

ETA – Make a list of everything you plan to pack. That way, if you go into labor before you’re packed you can just go down the list instead of having to remember everything.

@eecuadrado:  I just finished packing my bag last night and we are going in to be induced this morning at 37w. I kinda had an oh sh*t moment after my 36w appointment last week when i got sent to L&D for monitoring so i finally got my act together…

Here’s what I have in my bag including the items which my BFF told me to pack after having her baby 2 weeks ago.

1)Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shampoo, toothbrush, floss, toothpaste, deodorant, hair ties, chapsticks, hair ties, brush, nail clippers/file, lotion, towel, pads, nursing pads)

2)Clothes: Robe, underwear, yoga pants, nursing cami’s, nursing bras, sleep wear that opens in the front, socks with stickies on bottom for walking halls of hospital. Going home outfit for baby (Clothes for Darling Husband also including comfy athletic pants & swim trunks in case i need him to help me labor in shower)

3)Tools for Labor: tennis balls in a sock for back massage, socks filled with rice to be heated and help with pains of labor, yoga/labor ball, Motherlove Birth & Baby Oil (good for massage on arms/shoulders & the nurses at my hospital like to use it on perinum to help stretch it out during delivery) We also packed our cheat sheet of different positions to labor in

4) Comforts: Lots of snacks (apple sauce, chips, crackers, cookies), girl scout cookies & candy bars for the nurses, pillow & blanket (set for me and set for DH) phone chargers, camera, boppy, small bills and change for vending machines

We will have the camera battery charger in the car (don’t anticipate needing it but incase we do it’ll just be outside), we also have our iPads and some of my trash magazines to flip through incase we get bored (?) – i packed a diaper bag but am not planning on bringing it inside but it seems like a mom thing to have ready in my car along with the carseat. We also have an adaptor for our iPad that allows us to put the memory card from our camera into it and upload pictures so we have that in the camera bag so we can upload pics as needed. Darling Husband is bringing his hotspot so we’ll have our own wifi and won’t have to rely on the hospitals wifi. I am bringing a small blue tooth speaker to stream music on incase i need something to focus on besides the tv. I’ll be sure to let you know if there’s something i found useless or something i found that i really needed/wanted but didn’t pack. Off i go!

I went into labour at 34 weeks and hadn’t got round to packing a bag. I’d recommend doing it sooner rather than later!
