I have a friend whose mom is in the hospital, and they are spending a lot of time there right now. My friends wanted to send flowers, but I’m thinking a care package might be a nice gesture. Other than magazines, crossword puzzle-type books and snacks, can you think of anything that would be good to include? Anything you might have liked to have when you or a family member were in the hospital? I would love suggestions!

I think you have the right idea.
Depending on what she is in the hospital for and what her appetite is, but maybe arranging to have a yummy dinner delivered instead of the hospital food would be a nice treat.

Travel size bottles of their favorite hygiene products (shampoo, conditioner, etc…) might be nice. Warm slipper socks are good, as is a warm robe, if they don’t already have it there. Pictures (in picture frames) are great to make the room feel more homey, if they’re going to be there for a while.

Fuzzy socks, lip balm, hygiene wipes (for the restroom), cookies, biscotti, home-made bread, (stuff they can offer to visitors), yummy smelling hand lotion, mixed nuts….
They will really appreciate your thoughtfulness!

@lefeymw: LOVE the dinner delivery idea. Hospital food gets boring, even in the rare times it’s good.

I would love a ton of books to read, but then again, I’m a huge bookworm. I agree with trying to make the hospital room more like home though. What a wonderful gesture.

I’m not sure if you meant the gift to be for your friend or your friend’s mom:
Travel size soap, hand lotion, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, lip gloss, bed socks, stamps and thank you cards for gifts they will receive from others, a gift card for the coffee shop in the lobby.

I would do the meal thing, but her mom is very strange about food. Good idea though!
I like the ideas of travel bottles of stuff, and socks and stuff. Thanks guys!

I was in the hospital once for 5 weeks, and the thing I loved the most was music. Onbe of my friends bought me some CD’s and she loaded them onto my iPod. I realluy enjoyed it because it would also help me sleep at night so I wouldne’ hear all the other sounds in the hospital like people moaning. LOL!
