My reception and wedding is being held at a friends house for free (My moms friend)
It is owned by a couple who are basically well off but humble and down to earth people.
What do you give them for allowing us to have our special day in their home?
I was thinking like $200 gift card to somewhere but to me, that feels so impersonal.
I’m just not sure…

You could put together a gift basket of thoughtful goodies from some sort of nicer supermarket or specialty store.

Aw, how wonderful of them!
First, make sure you include a really personal, sincere, specific thank you note about how much you loved having your wedding at their home.
After that, you have a lot of options. One that I like is giving them a “couple’s weekend away” – a night or two at a B&B, a really nice bottle of wine, champagne, or scotch, depending on if/what they drink, a basket of chocolates or other goodies.
The gift card thing would also be fine, as long as the note was personal.

@mightywombat: Thanks for your input. You better believe I’m going to write them the best thank you note ever!
