I’ve been struggling with the idea of what to get my shower hostesses- espcially the hostesses of our first shower which are friends of my future in-laws. I do not know these people.
I wanted to get the hives oppinion on the idea I had: instead of spending money on stuff that would probably end up sitting on a shelf some where and then donated to goodwill or the next garage sale, I was thinking of making a donation to a charity in honor of my hostesses.
Do you think that’s tacky, or a good idea?

I don’t think that’s tacky at all. I think it’s a good idea.

I don’t know, I’m a little weary of donations "made on my behalf". I prefer to do that sort of thing on my own. But, you know your hostesses best. Are there particular organizations they are aligned with?

I don’t think there are any particular organizations they are involved with- I was thinking of giving to their local food bank.

I was really excited about my hostess gifts- and my aunts were shocked that I thought to get them something! I bought monogrammed tote bags from Etsy and cute matching umbrellas (get it- a shower?). I thought it was pretty funny! PM me if you want to Etsy seller, her prices were great.

I did make a small donation to a local foundation in my town who also does cancer advocacy, because I think it’s more economical to spend $$ in your local community that will stay in the community. Also cancer is a disease that has impacted my entire family, so it was an issue near and dear to our hearts. OH–it was in honor of my aunt who lives out of town and who financially contributed to my shower given by all of my aunts.
For the aunts (and my mother & grandmother) I did get them a little gift. My goal in my hostess gifts were to get something thats practical. I went to the Dollar Store and got little tote bags rather than gift bags. I filled them with some organic fair trade lotion and soap from the natural foods store. (I can’t stand cosmetics with all the fake chemicals and harsh scents!) I also included a small umbrella from the Dollar Store and included a thank you note that said, “here are a few things in case of a shower and to use in your shower”
