Hi ladies, Im just wondering, would milk or water be used for the hot cocoa bar? I personally prefer it with whole milk, but thats how I grew up with it. What is your preference?
I will have a buffet of toppings ranging from whipped cream to chocolate shavings and peppermint candies.

It really depends on who is providing it. If you are having an espresso company come in as the caterers, they will use milk. Pretty much everyone else will use water since it’s cheaper.

Tastes sooo much better with Milk!! But some people have dairy intolerances so if you can I would provide a non-dairy option also. Be it water, soy milk or whatever.
Sound so yummy! I wanted to do that too, but ended up being one of my cuts due to budget. lol

I agree that it would be best to provide two options if possible.

I love hot chocolate with water and whipped cream but most everyone else I know uses milk.
I actually grew up with both, my mom would boil the water, mix the chocolate and then add cold milk which served to cool the drink down a bit and provide the milk. I skip this step like I skip milk in my tea. It’s just easier.

I agree it tastes better with milk but as PPs have noted it might be worth it for those who have issues with dairy to offer an alternative (if possible!)
Sounds delicious! :0)

I would like to do just one so that I can keep it fairly inexpensive. I think it would be easier that way too since I dont have to double buy everything like the cocoa powder and the thermal containers, or runnig out of one option due to personal preferences. We will be renting the dispensers and setting it up ourselves so it wouldnt be a company deciding for us, its all up to us. And by us, I mean me. Hubby doesnt care for hot cocoa, nor understands the idea of it. But like they say, happy wife happy life, so I’m having it!

Milk. Every mug of disappointing hot chocolate I’ve ever had was made with water.

Could you have a little thing of water based with a sign for any lactose intolerant people? Or provide the milk, water, and powder and let guests create their own? That might help you with needing to refill it as well.
Just out of curiosity, what toppings are you doing for the bar? This sounds like such a fun idea!

Curious but how do you intend to keep the milk hot without it curdling? Making an individual cup is completely different from having a percolator with liquid for 200 cups that you add mix or syrup to. since the percolator has to be on quite a while to make it hot.
