I made mason jars like this for my best friends wedding. To do the lace and burlap I used spray glue! It was so easy. Spray the lace and stick it to the jar. Any embellishments use a hot glue gun. The candle won’t get hot enough to melt the glue!

The heat from the candles should move up, so only the rim of the mason jar should get hot.

However, if the candles burn down, eventually hot wax may run to the bottom of the jar.  However, I don’t believe hot wax will be hot enough to melt the glue.

If you are worried, what about placing the candles on a mirror?  Like this one: http://www.save-on-crafts.com/mirrors2.html
