I’ve done hot yoga a couple of times and really enjoyed it (it’s just too expensive in my area for me to do regularly).  The poses are all balance postures, so no downward dogs or anything too strenuous or inverted(which is good).  You will sweat A LOT– I usually look like I jumped in a pool when I am done, so I would bring a change of clothing as well.

It’s a lot of fun and I actually really like the heat, I think it feels good and makes you much more flexible.  Plus I always feel like I sweated out all my toxins!

Drink plenty of water!  And you should bring a big water bottle, a yoga mat and a large towel with you.

OMG I wrote a post about this a month or so ago here.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I LOVE Bikram Yoga.  I am going 4 times a week.  On the days I do not go I wish I was going.  My body has changed.  I have not lost a ton of weight (I weigh 121 pounds so I dont really need to) but my body shape has changed.

Here are my tips for your class:

  • Drink a ton of water all day.  You will need to pee every 10 minutes but that is ok.
  • Bring your yoga mat, a bath towel and a hand towel.
  • Bring water.  Not gatorade, not life water just water.  I now put a half full bottle of water in the freezer the night before so that my water will stay cool.
  • Do not eat 3 hours before you go.
  • Take it easy.  Make sure you spend all 90 minutes in the room.
  • If you feel dizzy.  Lay down on your back.  You can spend as much time on your back as you need.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.  Will you be taking Bikram Yoga or just hot yoga?

I am going to class tonight… now I can’t stop thinking about how good that room is going to feel.

There’s different kinds of hot yoga – are you doing the Bikram yoga class or a different one? There’s a yoga studio where I’m from that holds all its classes in a “hot” room – Bikram, flow, Yin. So that’s something to be aware of because flow yoga will definitely require some upper body strength.

It’s funny this topic came up because I’m going to try it for the first time tomorrow!  I’m excited, but scared at the same time!  I just need a change in my workout!  My BFF and I plan on going in the morning, so I’ll let you know how it goes!  EEEKKSS!
