So my wedding was this weekend and we had originally reserved rooms for a hotel in town. My guests got in fine but when we went to get our room they said that we weren’t in the system. It would’ve been under my name since it was my card. We had her double check and she couldn’t find anything and seemed to be getting annoyed with us. We eventually just got another room and called it a night assuming that because all our rooms weren’t booked that we lost the room, no problem, wee weren’t even told the check out time. Well I checked my bank statement and it seems that I’ve now been double charged for the hotel. Right now there is no manager on sight and nothing can be done until morning. Someone told me it might be a withholding fee and that it’ll be refunded.
I’m not happy and unsure of what to do.

Save your receipt and assert yourself.

nerk : I think the hotel will straighten this out and if I were the manager I would compensate you additionally. But I’d also go to your bank and explain what occurred. If the hotel people won’t clear this up, the bank might assist. So sorry.

Don’t stress, I’m sure they’ll fix this. You said the manager isn’t there but if there is someone else I’d tell them so as to flag it as early as possible. Otherwise just tell them tomorrow. It shouldn’t be a big deal if it’s obviously a mistake 🙂

All you have to do is call the hotel and tell them, they’re required to fix mistakes like this on their end. Same thing happened to my husband and I when we went on a trip- booked online only to be told there was no booking under our name & got charged double later. Super itrritating but it got straightened out!

Did you pay with a debit card or a credit card? If it’s a debit card, hotels usually will put a hold on additional funds as a security deposit in case any damage is done, for incidental room charges, etc. The hold should clear in a few days. If you paid with a credit card, dispute the charges if you don’t get a satisfactory response from the hotel.
Did you use your card to put a hold on rooms for your guests? If so, I’m wondering if one of the guests didn’t give the hotel their card to charge and that’s why it was billed to you?

Relax. Call back in the morning when a manager is there. 99% of the time this is just a mixup and gets sorted pretty easily.
