So I’m just starting to look into setting up a room block for my destination wedding in Vegas. We are getting married about 8 miles off the strip at Canyon Gate Country Club. The three closest hotels are La Quinta, JW Marriott, and Suncoast Casino resort. I looked into the JW Marriott and they require us to guarantee 80% of the rooms blocked at $159 per room night.
I’m concerned the $159 is not the best rate in Vegas and that many of my guests will want to stay on the strip versus off strip. I think $159 is not bad for the JW Marriott but not great compared to other Vegas hotels. Suncoast is about $49 per night.
Do any Bees know of any Vegas hotels that will not hold us responsible for unbooked rooms? I want to pick one or two hotels for my guests and possibly arrange for shuttle service for their convenience. (Although my bridesmaids say that guests should worry about their own transportation since cabs and car rentals are cheap.)

@malisa0607: We did the same thing our wedding is this November in Vegas and we blocked out 10 rooms but if we couldnt fill them by a certain date we were in the same boat you would be in. Luckly the Sema show is on that weekend so the rooms that we didnt use would get booked anyways. Sorry I couldnt help we are staying at the Hilton and they do the same thing your hotel does, charge you for the unbooked blocked rooms.

@Anxiouspeanut: call the hotels you are interested in- and ask for group sales- see what they say in person- Do you need your guests to stay in the same hotel? And also if SEMA is at that same time- hotels/casinos will jack their prices.

We dont intend to block any rooms off in Vegas because we want our guests to stay where they want. Plus, I dont want them scratching their eyes out for spending so much time together. And cabs are cheap.

@MASPA:I agree with Naspa. And the ramada on flamingo quoted me 53 dollars a night… and I think thats a pretty good rate! I think Unless you are planning on doing a whole lot of activities together, and expecting the people to show up to them, I would let people make their own arrangements.
Shop around for vegas, because for sure, you will be able to get a better rate.
I too am not blocking off rooms for guests, I want them to stay where they want. I just want like everyone together for a Friday night (night before) dinner… (non hosted, but hoping they will come anyhow) and then for the vow renewal (by the welcome to fabulous las vegas sign, by elvis of course) then a hosted cocktail reception:) Then off to the strip and Fremont St!
I just can’t wait!
