Heck no! Guests pay for their own rooms in the block. Sure it would be nice if you can afford but it is not necessary nor do you have to pay for your guests rooms

Umm, not in my book! I think you’re doing enough of a courtesy to find the hotels and reserve the block of rooms (hopefully at a discounted rate for your guests!) but I have never heard of paying for them as well unless you’re SUPER generous.

Sometimes the hotel needs you to pay for them upfront though and then you get your $ back after they are booked. But that’s only if the hotel requires it (most don’t). Maybe that’s what he’s talking about?

If you had tons of money, and wanted to pay for the rooms I’m sure the guests would be thrilled, but it’s definitely not standard or necessary.

We are paying for everyone’s accommodations for 2 nights BUT (big but) it’s only nine rooms. It’s really not customary.

HA. There’s no way I’m paying for all my guests rooms. And over half of our guest list is out-of-town. That is just crazy.

Does your Fiance know how much that would be? Room rates vary greatly by city/date/time of year but I think it would be crazy to pay for all of them.

@Stellar Magnitude: Then they will drive home after! Everyone was from out of town for our wedding – it was semi-destination! Our wedding ended at 11:30pm, and it was 1.5 hours away from where we live, and there were a bunch of people who had a BLAST, stayed til the end, and drove home afterwards. If they want to be there for you, they will find a way.

That goes beyond what you should be worrying about. You are doing your part by booking the block ๐Ÿ™‚ Don’t worry!

@Stellar Magnitude: Then either they don’t come or drive home afterwards.. I had people who drove for over 10 hours for our wedding. We did not pay for their rooms.

All this being said. In New Orleans, you can get GREAT room deals. LIke $59 for La Pavillion and stuff. Sigh. I love New Orleans. I’m so jealous of your wedding.

@Stellar Magnitude: Nooo! An hour is nothing ๐Ÿ™‚

Dh was clueless about a few of these things too, he thought it was normal to buy the groomsmen all new suits for our wedding.

@Stellar Magnitude: HELL NO! Your Fiance is crazy unless you’re super rich… That is way overboard. ALL guests should expect to pay for their own hotel rooms no matter how far or little the drive. .. IMO

that said does he want to pay for all the hotel rooms for my family… ๐Ÿ˜‰ hehe
