@kankanwed: I’m not sure if this is helfpful, but I have stayed at the Cannes Beach Residence in Cannes, France. It’s 36 miles south of Nice. It was beautiful and very close to the Palais where the Cannes Film Festival takes place which is also on the beach and French Riviera. The reviews on tripadvisor say that it is very reasonably priced. I stayed there as part of a tour and it was almost 10 years ago now, but I remember it being very close to the beach and since it is near the Palais I am sure there would be lots of restaurants. I specifically remember a very cute cafe nearby. There are also kitchenttes.

Nice is very beautiful too, but I’ve never stayed there! Good luck finding the perfect spot Smile.

I stayed at Hôtel Mercure le Grimaldi in Nice.  It was a great location and really close to everything.  We walked everywhere from there – to all of the shops “downtown”, to the beach, to the cemetery/lookout, everywhere.  It was nice enough too – not deluxe or anything but still nice.  I looked it up quickly on Tripadvisor and it says the nightly rate is $126 Canadian.

I love Nice but I loooooove Eze!  I would try and stay there for a couple of nights too:)  Best of both worlds!

I think the area of Nice near the hotel that I stayed at was really nice and I would say romantic.  There’s an area a few blocks away that is a pedestrian cobblestone street with a bunch of restaurants.  The old town is very close too -with tiny winding streets filled with shops and restaurants.  You’re right though, it is a big city.  The thing I liked about Nice is that you can do little day trips to so many places.  We crossed the border into Italy by train, took the bus to Monaco, and went to Eze, St. Paul de Vence, Gourdon, and Grasse plus other places.  I hope you find what you’re looking for!

we stayed at the Le Meridian when we were in Nice.  It’s a pretty nice hotel, in a very central area across from the riviera.  I’m not sure how much it was, but it’s a Starwood, so you can always use points.

I would suggest Ville-Franche Sur Mer, its like 15 minute train ride away from Nice. There are tonsss of restaurants/shops.  The beach is small, but its pretty and easier to lay on the sand (small pebbles, compared to the rocks on the beach in Nice) It’s such a beautiful quaint ROMANTIC town! The opposite of Nice, but close enough to it!

Fi & I wanted to go there for our honeymoon, but decided to go somewhere we’ve never been to before.
